Incomplete gold sheet object, comprising two joining fragments, probably an earring of Roman date. It is in the shape of a round-shouldered or 'kite-shaped' shield, bent (and probably folded and then unfolded), with three vertical creases and broken along two probable horizontal creases. There is a small perforated lug in the same plane at the apex. The pointed lower end of the shield is missing, and approximately just over half survives. D-sectioned band decorated externally with a shallow rib at either edge, between which four oval cells alternate with five quatrefoil cells (resulting in two quatrefoils next to each other). In the centre are two pairs of transverse grooves with a pair of semi-circular indentations ('notches') in between, together forming a square panel. Rectangular plate with empty rivet hole in each corner and folded tab for suspension of (missing) pendant projecting from one long edge.The front of the plate is decorated with a sexfoil reserved on a field of closley spaced pellets. Gilding survives over most of the front face. Width 36mm. Length (including tab) 32mm (excluding tab) 25mm.Late 12th - 13th century. Late palaeolithic double-ended scraper. Segment of a large blade with a single crest in a chocolate brown stained flint. Both ends appear to have been steeply retouched to give a double ended scraper but both have suffered ancient damage. The distal edge has small neat retouch scars at both ends but the central part of the edge has two larger scars with evidence of crushing on the ventral side.
