Medieval copper alloy folding strap clasp. Rectangular frame with concave sides with transverse ridges at either end. Folding end, recessed for frame, with separate riveted transverse bar mount. Rectangular plate folded widthways, recessed slightly for frame, with single rivet at attachment edge. Frame 15 x 18mm. Plate 29 x 15mm. 13th - 15th century.

Collared and lobed pierced terminal with iron corrosion on the front and back, faceted domed plate, waisted at one end with copper alloy rivet before springing of broken rearward facing hook. Lower Palaeolithic pointed ovate handaxe of Wymer's type E, unifacially and invasively knapped from a thermal or "potlid" fractured piece of white patinated flint, the dorsal (worked) face is patinated with a white "basket weave" with the original brown flint colour showing in-between, there is a small patch of worn and orange stained cortex where the flakes did not overlap towards the middle of this face. Silver grosso of Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia), Rome, 1492-1503, adapted by the cutting out of a disc from the centre of the coin. The reason for this is uncertain; annular brooches are known which have been similarly treated but they are generally over two centuries earlier in date and have a hole drilled in the perimeter to accommodate a pin. Post-medieval lead cloth seal. Two discs RT / TBBM / BPRM / [SV] // NO / RWI / [C]H. Diameter 20mm. The letters on the first disc are the initial letters of the surnames of the wardens of the Norwich Weavers' Company for one year between 1650 and 1705 (Egan 1994, 46-7). The year in question is 1683 (Egan 1987, 412). An identical cloth seal has been recorded from Dunton, Norfolk (HER 51659, NMS-0F2B01).

Rounded butt end, parallel, convex sides, wedge-shaped with shallow flanges expanding towards a very straight, ancient break. Surviving length 33mm. Maximum measurements at break 23 x 16mm. Two joining fragments making up nearly all of a gilded silver great square-headed brooch.The upper fragment consists of most of the headplate, the bow and a small part of the foot; the lower fragment consists of most of the rest of the foot. Very little original edge surviving, inner panel decorated with engraved lines and ring-and-dot with one ring-and-dot decorated lobe projecting from the edge. The plain side lobe is separated from the engraved inner panel by a curved line. Gilding survives in the engraved lines. Hines (1997) Group XVI or XVII. Circa 525 - 575.
