Object type: BUCKLE
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Medieval copper alloy buckle with integral plate. Flat-sectioned, broken across a loop at either end, with a narrow bar between, which is expanded immediately behind the smaller loop for an empty piercing for a rivet or the (missing) pin. Surviving length 25mm. Maximum surviving width 11mm. Width of bar 4mm. See Whitehead (2003, 33, no.190, 34, no.201 and 35, nos.207 - 8) for potentially similar buckles. The small size of this example makes it rather fragile, and it could only have been used for a very narrow strap with didn't take much weight.
