Silver thimble. Two part construction consisting of a domed top and separate sheet for the sides, the join between which can just be seen. The edge to edge join of the side sheet is now partially separated. There is a border around the base consisting of two lines of caballing with a plain space between. There are two ovals positioned on opposite sides of the thimble, one containing a worn crowned female bust facing left with a K to the right, the other a crowned male bust facing left with C to one side and R to the other. An incomplete silver thimble, now distorted. The top is missing, and the thimble has broken down one side along the original join. Decorated around the base with a plain border between two pairs of engraved lines with transverse lines between them. Above the border the sides of the thimble are decorated with closely spaced annulets. Post-medieval. For a similar example see the Treasure Annual Report 2005/6 (377, fig.830) 16th - 17th century. Compare also the thimble or sewing ring lacking a top from Hampshire (TAR2005/6, ref 830, p.162, 2006 T393)

An incomplete and distorted silver thimble. The top is missing and the remaining sides have been cut or broken vertically and folded twice. Most of the external surface is covered with closely spaced lines of punched squares forming a waffle pattern with a plain border above and below. There is an engraved inscription around the base between two engraved lines ] VSE * VERtEV[ ('use virtue' or possibly 'use virtuously'). The rest of the border, and therefore any further letters in the inscription, are obscured by the folded metal. Height 22.7mm. Weight 3.9g.17th century.

Incomplete silver thimble. Cut across the top and lengthways and unrolled. Decorated around the base with a band, plain except for a worn and unreadable stamped makers mark, with ridged or beaded border on either side. Above the band the surface is covered with closely spaced stamped annulets and two worn stamped ovals, one containing a heart with crossed arrows and possible flames above, the other a standing figure of cupid with raised bow. Post-medieval silver thimble with beaded base, circular pits surrounded by annulets on the sides and top, and the maker's initials MC above an empty heart-shaped cartouche that is flanked by supporters in the form of birds reguardant. A rectangular fragment of the side of a silver thimble, broken on three sides. Two engraved lines form a border at the rim, above which are lines of evenly spaced square dots with a plain section to one side and a plain band above before a break. There is no trace of a makers or hall mark, and the dots are hand punched. The break at the top is slightly uneven, as if broken across further punched dots.

Fragment of silver sheet with no original edge surviving, engraved or stamped on one face with crescent-shaped fields filled with short transverse lines, forming a 'fish-scale' pattern reserved on a field of staggered crosshatching (brickwork pattern). Fragment of post-medieval silver thimble, perhaps half surviving. Separately soldered top missing, thickened rib around lower edge with a border above which is plain except for at least two engraved letters ]...[ P, broken across the first making it indecipherable. The sides are decorated with a zigzag reserved on a field of punched dots forming a waffle pattern, with a plain border above. The sheet is splitting and broken along the engraved lines defining the zigzag. Surviving height 23mm. Diameter (if half survives undistorted) circa 18mm. Weight 3.0g. Circa 17th century.
