Medieval gilt copper alloy buckle. Oval frame, bar and pin missing, triangular outside edge with a notch to either side of a rounded apex, decorated with an engraved single line border forming a triangle either side of a central transverse band of engraved rockerarm. Surviving dimensions 21 x 45mm. See Whitehead (2003, 25, no.117) for a broadly similar example. 13th - 14th century.

Early Saxon silver, gilded buckle pin. D-sectioned pin, recessed on the underside for the (missing) frame, the broken loop emerging from the mouth of a stylised animal head with small round ears, shallow brow ridge, dots for eyes and a slightly up-turned snout. The loop is rectangular-sectioned, curved internally, and flattened on the base externally before the break. Only the animal head has been gilded. Length 23mm. Thickness 4mm. Weight 3.1g. No very close parallel has been found. Circa 550 - 700 (Andrew Rogerson pers. com.).

Medieval copper alloy buckle and incomplete plate of thick sheet now broken across the start of the apertures separating the body and wings, folded widthways to form a short, rectangular back-plate, with a slot for the (missing) pin. Decoration comprises lines of very tight rocker-arm engraving resembling addorsed triangles. Medieval copper alloy buckle. Oval frame, with only the terminals of the off-set, narrowed bar surviving. The outside edge is formed from three lobes each decorated with two angled transverse ribs forming a chevron. Externally the lobes are slight, internally the edge is scalloped with four concave foils. Measuring 20 x 34mm. Broadly similar in style to double-looped frames in Egan and Pritchard (2002, 84, fig.51, no.345 and an example illustrated from the Museum of London collection), although this is certainly a single-looped example. Probably 14th - 15th century.

The plate is decorated with a lion passant guardant in low relief on a stippled ground. The surface is very corroded but gilding survives on the frame and plate. Late 12th - 13th century. Post-medieval copper alloy buckle. Chape only survives, folded widthways and tapering slightly towards the rounded terminal. The slot and looped end and filled with iron corroion from the missing spindle and pin, and there is iron corrosion blocking a circular hole in the rounded terminal. There is a stamped maker's mark on one face below pin slot EB within a heart. Length 24.5mm. Width 10mm. 17th - 18th century.

Middle or Late Saxon copper alloy buckle with integral plate. Oval frame, rectangular plate with hole for cast pin with downturned end and pair of median transverse grooves. The plate is slightly curved longitudinally with a central band of six closely spaced transverse grooves, with two rivet holes before a transverse break. One rivet hole is blocked by corrosion. The other contains the corroded remains of an iron rivet. Length 25mm. Width of frame 13mm. Width of plate 9.5mm. See NMS-822DE5, which although extremely similar, does not join this fragment.
