Early Anglo-Saxon silver buckle, treasure case 2011T835. Description: Oval frame of oval cross-section, with slight groove following the inside edge, probably the result of hammering during manufacture. There is a broad grooved pin rest on the outside edge and a narrowed bar. The pin is cast and D-shaped in cross-section, with a raised square on top of the loop; it is curved at the tip to fit over the frame. Copper alloy D-shaped buckle frame with single lobe at both ends of narrowed bar, at junctions of sides and outside edge, tri-lobed knop in centre of outside edge, with very worn traces of stamped ring-and-dots. There is iron staining on the bar and one side. Pin missing. For a very similar example in better condition see NMS-7FFC95. Many other frames quite close in form have been recorded. Near parallels have been found at Horsham St Faith (Norfolk HER 50700) and Southrepps (Norfolk HER 51114). Measuring 24 x 28mm. 11th century.

Middle or Late Saxon copper alloy buckle with integral plate. Oval frame, rectangular plate with hole for cast pin with downturned end and pair of median transverse grooves. The plate is slightly curved longitudinally with a central band of six closely spaced transverse grooves, with two rivet holes before a transverse break. One rivet hole is blocked by corrosion. The other contains the corroded remains of an iron rivet. Length 25mm. Width of frame 13mm. Width of plate 9.5mm. See NMS-822DE5, which although extremely similar, does not join this fragment.

Early Saxon silver, gilded buckle pin. D-sectioned pin, recessed on the underside for the (missing) frame, the broken loop emerging from the mouth of a stylised animal head with small round ears, shallow brow ridge, dots for eyes and a slightly up-turned snout. The loop is rectangular-sectioned, curved internally, and flattened on the base externally before the break. Only the animal head has been gilded. Length 23mm. Thickness 4mm. Weight 3.1g. No very close parallel has been found. Circa 550 - 700 (Andrew Rogerson pers. com.).
