Roman copper alloy sprung dolphin brooch. Undecorated C-sectioned wings, triangular-sectioned bow with concve sides and flat upper face, with a median ridge at the upper end. Almost complete triangular catch-plate with triangular aperture. Blunt-ended foot. Double pierced lug retains the spring with four coils on one side and five on the other. Pin missing. 1st century AD. Length 36mm. Width 23mm.

Early Saxon copper alloy cruciform brooch. Fully rounded, waisted, integral top knop with one groove above the waist and two below. Narrow, well defined rectangular head-plate with stamped pairs of semi-circles along either edge. The wings are narrow, rectangular, undecorated and curved downwards, with a small amount of iron corrosion on the front of one. The high and short catchplate is of a type found on some Knee brooches, e.g. Hattatt nos. 1227-8, and plate brooches, e.g. ibid. nos. 1622-6. 33 x 17mm. 2nd - 3rd century.

Incomplete La Téne I type brooch, comprising remains of three coils of broken spring at top of oval sectioned bow with median groove, foot with a side extension forming the catch-plate, and narrowing and curving back on itself to terminate in a stylized animal head consisting of an oval disc with a snout. There is a single stamped dot in the centre of the top of the animal head. Length 40mm, width of bow at max. 5mm, depth of bow at max. 4mm. Similar to an example in Hattatt (2000, 288, fig.147, no.725) and another from Fring (HER 23001). 4th-3rd century BC.

Rectangular panel forming facets at top and base of hollow-backed bow, both panels with a single transverse groove. Single median groove on bow. Single transverse groove at top of footplate. On reverse a widely spaced double pin lug with remains of iron pin bar and spring, and stub of catchplate. The break across the upper end of the footplate is not ancient, and cuts through the footplate stub. Length at least 46mm. Width 26mm. Late 5th century.

The two perforations in the headplate suggest a place in Leeds 1945 cross pattee derivative group e (i). Lines of fine punched dots follow the edge of the basal notches, extend up to and around and then link the two perforations.
