Late palaeolithic double-ended scraper. Segment of a large blade with a single crest in a chocolate brown stained flint. Both ends appear to have been steeply retouched to give a double ended scraper but both have suffered ancient damage. The distal edge has small neat retouch scars at both ends but the central part of the edge has two larger scars with evidence of crushing on the ventral side. The proximal end appears to have been damaged by the loss of a large chip and shows slight evidence of crushing on the ventral edge. The find spot is near one of the head ways of the River Wens…

Neolithic flint pick. Dimensions 416 x 66 x 49mm. Brown staining over dark grey / black flint. Rhombic section with sharp ridge on one face, largely formed by a natural cleavage plane (ancient frost fracture), the other face flaked entirely with a more rounded medial ridge. The dark brown patination suggests a probable peaty deposition, there is a trace of concretion on one face, most likely an accumulation of iron oxides and grit. All flake scars appear to be fairly hard hammer struck with some removals exhibiting a deep negative bulbs of percussion. At one end an impact ha…

Palaeolithic flint handaxe. Measuring 210 x 115 x 37mm. This is a very large handaxe, probably one of the largest ever recorded from Norfolk. Although long and wide, the handaxe is relatively slim and has a profile that suggests that it may have been made on an enormous primary flake, or more likely a large, flat nodule of flint. It is finished by large invasive flake removals around the whole perimeter except at the point, where the flake scars are relatively small. Heavily patinated, weathered cortex remains to one face where the flake scars failed to overlap, a couple of …

An incomplete Beaker period barbed and tanged arrowhead of semi-translucent fine quality flint with no rough inclusions, now patinated an attractive orange colour. The piece is missing both barbs and the tip with some minor damage to both lateral edges. All breaks appear to be ancient. This is unfortunate as the shape of the barbs are the defining characteristic for Green's typology (1980). Both faces are competently pressure flaked with overlapping flake scars. The opposed face is only polished at the extreme edge of the cutting edge and is otherwise neatly finished by shallow re-touch flaking.
