Description: Three fragments of a medieval silver sheet object, possibly a scabbard chape, dating to c. AD 1200-1300. All three are decorated on one face with fields defined by engraved lines and filled with either rocker-arm engraving or niello. The other face is undecorated. The original find was too fragmentary to discern a possible pattern; the addition of two joining pieces show that there appears to be an abstract foliate design. Fragment 1: No original edge, broken across at least one rivet or attachment hole. The fragment is too small to determine what the decoration depi…

Description: Unidentified silver frame, perhaps a mount or strap or chain distributor, now distorted. Circular openwork front-plate with a large octofoil aperture, the outer edge with multiple closely spaced notches forming a scalloped edge. A separate sheet soldered to the reverse at right-angles to the front-plate forms sides, with a scalloped rear edge, each foil with two longitudinal grooves, the foils separated by engraved lines. Unidentified and undated fragment of silver, gilded object. Curved, concave on both wide faces, narrowing slightly from one end towards the other, the outer edge knurled (multiple closely spaced transverse ribs) between narrow raised borders at either edge, the inner edge slightly convex and plain. Broken at both ends, one break extending around to the inner edge slightly leaving the possibility that there was an internal projection. Thickness 3mm. Width 7 - 9.5mm. Weight 2.5g. Unidentified object. Two cast silver rings, one D-sectioned (external diameter 12mm, internal diameter 9mm) the other circular-sectioned (external diameter 11mm, internal diameter 7mm), linked by a strip of silver forming a triple ribbed loop (width 3mm), the ends of which are tapered, twisted and broken. It is possible that the twisted ends of the connecting loop were inserted into leather or cloth leaving the two rings to act as suspension loops, although the fitting would have been unable to take much weight. Date: Probably medieval. Dimensions: Weight 2.0g.
