Medieval copper alloy gilt strap-end from scabbard belt or book clasp, of characteristic 14th-century design, of box-like construction. The part that contained the strap is rectangular with separate side strips before a box-like circular boss and broken transversely pierced terminal. On the reverse of the circular boss is a highly corroded protrusion. Tiny traces of gilding are visible, but the any detail is obscured by a layer of corrosion and dirt. These strap-ends are interpreted by Fingerlin (1971), p.111, nos.174-8) as scabbard belt-mounts, but have also been identified at book c…

Fragment of medieval silver, gilded finger ring. Slightly more than half of the hoop survives, the rear of the hoop missing with jagged breaks at either side. The ring is divided longitudinally from one broken edge to the other by a median rib to either side of which the outer face is concave. The sides are curved with each concave field engraved with longitudinal lines and short radiating dashes, possibly intended as a stylised leaf. A change of angle defines the edge of the bezel, with the median rib and a central transverse arris dividing the bezel into four rectangular fields each…

Medieval copper alloy buckle. Oval frame, with only the terminals of the off-set, narrowed bar surviving. The outside edge is formed from three lobes each decorated with two angled transverse ribs forming a chevron. Externally the lobes are slight, internally the edge is scalloped with four concave foils. Measuring 20 x 34mm. Broadly similar in style to double-looped frames in Egan and Pritchard (2002, 84, fig.51, no.345 and an example illustrated from the Museum of London collection), although this is certainly a single-looped example. Probably 14th - 15th century.
