Basal mount with two (distorted) rectangular strap loops and Y-shaped upright rotating stem for the suspension of two horse harness pendants. An unusual feature is the bifurcation near the top of the stem, just above which the two parts split into two round-ended pierced arms. Normally the stem holds a banner or a single pendant set sideways at the top (N. Griffiths FRG Datasheet 5 (1986) figs .22-3) or multiple arms (normally four) spring from a rotating sphere (ibid. figs. 24-5). Loops c.15 x 6mm internally. Length c.57mm. Height 43mm. Less than one third of a Kentish silver jewelled disc brooch, rim missing. The central cell is empty. Three outer cells are extant, one circular filled with decayed blue glass paste, one D-shaped filled with similar but paler material and another circular, empty and distorted. The eight coins were discovered dispersed over a small area. The group comprises eight silver denarii. The earliest is of Julia Domna, whilst the latest are of the last members of the Severan dynasty, Elagabalus, Severus Alexander, Julia Soaemias, Julia Maesa and Julia Paula. None show much signs of wear although some are rather accreted due to the low silver content of the coins. The openwork frame is flat sectioned, consisting of an internal ring with sixteen conjoined scallop-shell or fan-shaped projections (eleven of which survive) around the outer edge with a small circular hole between each one. Cast pin with transverse pierced oval-sectioned lug to attach to bar. The outside edge of the larger loop has a transverse flange, the upper edges of the frame concave with a notch at either end. Measuring 29 x 17mm (excluding arm). Width 32 including arm. See similar examples in Whitehead (2003, 89, no.552 - 4). This type of buckle is now thought to date from c. 1500 AD.

The finds were found with a metal detector in the ploughsoil over an area at least 30ft. across, and the site was subsequently excavated by Andrew Rogerson. A Silver strap-end of Thomas 2003 Class A Type 1. The attachment edge missing and it is broken across two rivet holes at the split end. The decoration on the front face was once inlaid with niello of which none survives. At the upper end a fan-shaped field contains a palmette motif. A fragment of a silver halfcrown of Charles I. The obverse has been filed smooth and the border containing the reverse legend has been removed, leaving a round garnished shield containing the arms of Great Britain. The resulting disc has been pierced centrally for use as a mount of some sort. An incomplete and distorted silver thimble. The top is missing and the remaining sides have been cut or broken vertically and folded twice. Most of the external surface is covered with closely spaced lines of punched squares forming a waffle pattern with a plain border above and below. There is an engraved inscription around the base between two engraved lines ] VSE * VERtEV[ ('use virtue' or possibly 'use virtuously'). The rest of the border, and therefore any further letters in the inscription, are obscured by the folded metal. Height 22.7mm. Weight 3.9g.17th century.
