1. Linch pin head. Stub of corroded rectangular sectioned iron shank protruding from a rectangular socket at the base of the copper alloy head. Above the socket is a circular moulding at the base of a globular body which is waisted before large flat circular top. Fragment of gold sheet strip, one straight end complete, the other missing. Throughout its length one long edge is folded over by 1 - 1.5mm. Eight longitudinal grooves cover the remainder of the object apart from a narrow strip along the other edge, which was probably once also folded over. Possibly Bronze Age.

Description: An ingot, analysed and found to be a high-tin pewter. Cast metal bar, one end rounded, the other distorted and broken. The section is plano-convex, tending to trapezoidal near the broken end. The surface of the curved face is uneven with numerous longitudinal striations, that of the straight face smooth. Near the very rough fracture the object has been bent, and there is transverse concavity, probably caused by pressure on the convex face. Gilt copper alloy mount, openwork, cast in the form of a fish caught between two confronted birds. The head of the fish is flanked by the beak of both birds, each with legs raised and holding the sides of the fish. There are two vertically aligned pierced lugs on the reverse, one at the upper edge and one at the lower edge (both project c.5mm), and have corroded iron in the perforations. Measuring 28 x 32mm. Circular, with a convex front with decoration cast in low relief consisting of a crowned female bust facing forwards, with flowing hair, a beaded necklace with a pendant and details of the collar and shoulders of a dress with a plunging neckline. The decoration, particularly the details of the face, is worn. The reverse is slightly damaged, and appears to have been hollow. The shank and loop are missing. Diameter 13mm. Thickness 3.5mm. An incomplete silver bar mount. There is a rectangular sectioned, circular terminal at one end, pierced and countersunk for a missing rivet. The rest of the mount is 'D' sectioned, flat and plain on the reverse, with cast decoration on the front consisting of transverse mouldings, a boss in the form of a four petelled flower, bands of pellets and a segmented moulding. The mount terminates in a transverse break. Surviving length 21mm. Width 6mm. Thickness 3mm. Weight 1.7g. 16th - 17th century.

The eight coins were discovered dispersed over a small area. The group comprises eight silver denarii. The earliest is of Julia Domna, whilst the latest are of the last members of the Severan dynasty, Elagabalus, Severus Alexander, Julia Soaemias, Julia Maesa and Julia Paula. None show much signs of wear although some are rather accreted due to the low silver content of the coins. It seems likely that the eight coins went into the ground together, either lost as part of a purse, or concealed as a hoard. Fragment of silver spoon consisting of a small length of stem of irregular hexagonal section, a triple collar of similar section and a wrythen knop. Wrythen-knopped spoons were popular over a short period in the late 15th and early 16th centuries (Gask 1926, 50-1). Date: Late 15th or early 16th century. Dimensions: Length greater than 24.5mm. A medieval gilded silver annular brooch. The openwork frame is flat sectioned, consisting of an internal ring with sixteen conjoined scallop-shell or fan-shaped projections (eleven of which survive) around the outer edge with a small circular hole between each one. One of these holes is expanded and the internal ring narrowed to hold the (missing) pin. The internal ring is decorated with an incised single line border around the inner and outer edge with angled grooves between, within which traces of niello survive. Fragment, probably from an Iron Age torc or bracelet, or a Roman bracelet. Two circular-sectioned strands of gold, each tapering slightly from one cut end to the other, twisted around each other. Total length 39mm. Diameter of strands at narrow end circa 2.5mm, diameter at the thicker end circa 3.5 - 4mm. Weight 7.5g. For potentially similar examples see PAS-845331 (Iron Age torc), SWYOR-CFE7F7 (Iron Age bracelet) and a 3rd-century bracelet in the collections of the British Museum (museum number 1883,1213.375).

Late medieval or early post-medieval copper alloy locking arm buckle. Rectangular frame with rectangular-sectioned sides drilled for separate spindle and (broken) locking arm. Cast pin with transverse pierced oval-sectioned lug to attach to bar. The outside edge of the larger loop has a transverse flange, the upper edges of the frame concave with a notch at either end. Measuring 29 x 17mm (excluding arm). Width 32 including arm. See similar examples in Whitehead (2003, 89, no.552 - 4). This type of buckle is now thought to date from c. 1500 AD.

An incomplete silver thimble, now distorted. The top is missing, and the thimble has broken down one side along the original join. Decorated around the base with a plain border between two pairs of engraved lines with transverse lines between them. Above the border the sides of the thimble are decorated with closely spaced annulets. Post-medieval. For a similar example see the Treasure Annual Report 2005/6 (377, fig.830) 16th - 17th century. A silver tongue-shaped composite strap-end. The outer sheet plates are soldered to the spacer, which terminates in an acorn knop, the cup of which is decorated with (rather abraded) stamped annulets. One prong of the spacer is now detached, and there is some damage to the sides of the plates, which taper in straight lines towards the knop. The inner face is inscribed GA ob 26 May 98 The omission of the first two letters of the date indicates that the date is 1698.
