An incomplete silver bar mount. There is a rectangular sectioned, circular terminal at one end, pierced and countersunk for a missing rivet. The rest of the mount is 'D' sectioned, flat and plain on the reverse, with cast decoration on the front consisting of transverse mouldings, a boss in the form of a four petelled flower, bands of pellets and a segmented moulding. The mount terminates in a transverse break. Surviving length 21mm. Width 6mm. Thickness 3mm. Weight 1.7g. 16th - 17th century.

Flat object made from a piece of sheet silver, with gold foil applied to one face. It is approximately triangular, with a wide lozengiform terminal at the apex; just below this, at the narrowest point, it has been bent and re-straightened, causing stress to the metal which has resulted in the loss of some gold foil from the front and some grey surface from the reverse. The base of the triangle is curved and has a ridge (hollow on the reverse) following this curve just above the edge; it looks as if it was designed to fit around a circular central plate or boss. Medieval silver mount. Originally faceted and conical with six faces, each decorated with a central panel of engraved crosshatching on which traces of gilding survive. There are multiple notches around the edge of the plate and a central hole, these notches may originally have been lobes or petals. Now squashed flat and slightly damaged. For two similar but less distorted examples see NMS-2701D2 and NMS-81E804, both dated 13th-15th centuries, see also Egan and Pritchard (2002, 189, fig.119, no.952, 959 and 990). Radius 10.5mm. Weight 0.5g. 13th - 15th century.
