CURATOR'S REPORT 17th Century silver button Description Composite three-piece biconvex silver button, the underside of which is now squashed and a distorted, with a D-sectioned wire loop. Engraved decoration on the top consists of a six-petalled flower within a circle and with the spaces between the petals filled with parallel lines, all set within a band of short oblique lines between two concentric circles. There are two blow-holes on the reverse.

An incomplete silver button. Circular, with a convex front with decoration cast in low relief consisting of a crowned female bust facing forwards, with flowing hair, a beaded necklace with a pendant and details of the collar and shoulders of a dress with a plunging neckline. The decoration, particularly the details of the face, is worn. The reverse is slightly damaged, and appears to have been hollow. The shank and loop are missing. Diameter 13mm. Thickness 3.5mm. Weight 1.0g. Circa 17th century.
