Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published
Gold finger ring consisting of a sub-circular sectioned hoop without bezel. There is no decoration, inscription, maker's mark or hall mark. Cf. an example from Suffolk (PAS SF-FCF822).
With such a lack of diagnostic features the object cannot be dated more closely than to the Roman period or any time thereafter.
External diameter 23mm. Internal diameter 19mm. Thickness 2.5mm. Weighing 5.38g.

Object type: RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published
Description: Undated gold ring. Slightly irregular section, D-shaped externally with a median arris internally. The internal surface is irregular and not well finished / smoothed in some areas.
Date: Undated.
Dimensions: Internal diameter 16 - 17mm. External diameter 22 - 22.5mm. Width of band 4 - 4.5mm. Thickness of band 2.5 - 3mm. Weight 6.7g.
Discussion: The lack of diagnostic features make this ring difficult to date. The irregular section of the band would be unusual for a post-medieval finger ring, the form and plainness would be unusual for a ring of Roman to Medieval dat…

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: UNKNOWN
County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Published
Description: Undated gold finger ring. Sheet band with median repoussé rib. There are at least two transverse creases which may indicate a join but the ring is slightly distorted, making this uncertain.
Dimensions: External diameter 20mm. Width of band 7.5mm. Weight 2.29g.
Discussion: Images of the ring have been seen by British Museum curators including Gillian Varndell, Neil Wilkin, Richard Hobbs and Barry Ager, and they have concluded that it cannot securely be dated to any particular period. It must therefore remain undated, and so does not fall under the provisions of …

Object type: PENDANT
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Published
A gold solidus of the emperor Theodosius I struck at Milan between 378 and 387 (Roman Imperial Coinage vol. IX, no. 5f or 8b). The coin has been fitted with a ribbed suspension loop, also of gold, at the 12 o'clock position on the obverse (6 o'clock on the reverse) in order for it to serve as a pendant. This process is well known from the early Saxon period when many Roman gold coins were thus treated.
Coin dated to 378-87, suspension loop added from the fifth to early seventh century.
