Broken, now triangular with two surviving sides set at slightly wider than 90 degrees, slightly raised plain repoussé border and elaborate openwork in a D-shaped panel in the surviving corner and broken across a curved panel, perhaps circular when complete. Roman copper alloy furniture fitting, perhaps a casket or box mount. Hollow backed, circular stud with the lion's face in high relief, with grooves defining the mouth and snout, and details of the eyes. The outer flange is engraved with radiating lines representing the mane around rounded ears. The reverse of the mount is filled with white metal and a central corroded iron shank. Diameter 25mm. Height 13mm. For similar examples see NMS-DB80B4, and an example from Skeleton Green, Hertfordshire (Partridge, 1981, 314, fig.119a). Circa 43 - 150 AD.

Incomplete silver developed crossbow brooch of Bayley and Butcher (2004) type T192. The crossbar, axis bar and pin are missing, broken at the end of the highly arched pentagonal-sectioned bow. The bow becomes abruptly circular-sectioned with a collar before the foot-plate, which is straight sided, bevelled on either edge with a single transverse rib and a pair of ribs at the upper end and two pairs of transverse ribs at the lower end. The sheet is folded forming a front and back-plate the edges of which are torn, except for the lower edge of the back-plate which appears neatly cut, and the straight folded edge. Pierced silver siliqua of Gratian, reverse VIRTVS ROMANORVM type, mintmark and further details illegible, slightly clipped and with relatively wide (2-3mm) piercing near edge (which has worn through) between 2 and 3 o'clock (obverse), weight 1.22g, AD378-83 The worn piercing shows that this coin has been reused as a pendant and thus qualifies at an item of Treasure. It is quite worn but not excessively so. The reuse as a pendant probably belongs to the 5th century although a late Roman reuse cannot be ruled out.
