Roman intaglio. Oval carnelian with flat upper face and bevelled edges on the reverse, with a thin rectangular-sectioned gold band around the edge. The upper face is engraved with a naked male standing figure facing left holding stems of corn in his left hand, and an unidentified object is his right, with drapery falling from his left arm. SECVND INI is engraved on the left edge of the gem in retrograde, the N and D ligatured.
Measuring 13 x 10mm. Thickness 2mm. Weight 0.5g.

Condition: Fracture on the dome of the head with several cracks and small chips. Chipped at the neck on the right. The short neck is polished with a shallow line engraved at the front. This was probably already cut down from a longer neck in Antiquity when it was most likely inserted into a bust made of another precious material.
