Broken, now triangular with two surviving sides set at slightly wider than 90 degrees, slightly raised plain repoussé border and elaborate openwork in a D-shaped panel in the surviving corner and broken across a curved panel, perhaps circular when complete. Incomplete gold sheet object, comprising two joining fragments, probably an earring of Roman date. It is in the shape of a round-shouldered or 'kite-shaped' shield, bent (and probably folded and then unfolded), with three vertical creases and broken along two probable horizontal creases. There is a small perforated lug in the same plane at the apex. The pointed lower end of the shield is missing, and approximately just over half survives. The original edges have a border, perhaps added to reinforce the flimsy sheet.

Hollow backed, circular stud with the lion's face in high relief, with grooves defining the mouth and snout, and details of the eyes. The outer flange is engraved with radiating lines representing the mane around rounded ears. The reverse of the mount is filled with white metal and a central corroded iron shank. Diameter 25mm. Incomplete silver developed crossbow brooch of Bayley and Butcher (2004) type T192. The crossbar, axis bar and pin are missing, broken at the end of the highly arched pentagonal-sectioned bow. The bow becomes abruptly circular-sectioned with a collar before the foot-plate, which is straight sided, bevelled on either edge with a single transverse rib and a pair of ribs at the upper end and two pairs of transverse ribs at the lower end. The sides of the sheath catch-plate have broken flush with the reverse of foot, with only the blunt terminal of the catch-plate surviving.

The worn piercing shows that this coin has been reused as a pendant and thus qualifies at an item of Treasure. It is quite worn but not excessively so. The reuse as a pendant probably belongs to the 5th century although a late Roman reuse cannot be ruled out.

Four base silver radiates fused together in a pile. Given this feature they clearly entered the ground in a similar position and, since they are of base silver, they furnish a case of Treasure. The only legible portions are provided by the face visible at each end of the pile, an obverse of Postumus from his Principal Mint and another of Gallienus from the Gallic Mint operating in the late 250s (with a GALLIENVS.P.F.AVG legend, radiate and cuirassed bust right). Both coins are in sharp condition with little wear and the loss or deposition most probably occurred in the 260s.

Roman - Early Saxon copper alloy propeller-shaped military belt stiffener, twin perforations in both sub-triangular ends (one contains a copper alloy rivet), oval expansion in the centre decorated with a double ring-and-dot. The outside edges are chamfered with some damage at both ends. Length 42mm. Width 18mm. 4th century (Clarke 1979, 285), but such objects occur in Early Anglo-Saxon contexts (Macgregor and Bolick 1993, 210 and 212, cat. nos. 36.8 and 9).

Roman incomplete small razor or knife, blade with curved cutting edge, point missing, straight flat-backed with regularly spaced transverse engraved lines. There are twin engraved lines on both faces of the blade bordering the straight vertical edge below springing of a sub-rectangular sectioned handle, broken before terminal and with both upper angles faceted with multiple incised oblique lines, end of handle missing. Roman flat, gold openwork link or part of clasp, probably from a necklace or similar item of jewellery. Formed from rectangular-sectioned cut strips of gold, an originally oval or circular frame around three pelta-shaped strips arranged with curved backs meeting in the centre and spiralled ends touching the frame. There is a circular suspension loop on the outside of the frame at one end retaining a fragment of knotted circular-sectioned wire, and a broken loop at the opposite end.
Surviving length 17mm. Surviving width 10mm. Thickness 1mm. Weight 0.6g.

Roman copper alloy plate brooch. Oval plate with an inner and outer raised rib around a central setting containing a pointed oval dark brown or black glass stone, the glass cracked and with a chip missing. The fields between the ribs are filled with pairs of tiny stamped lines with an annulet at each end. On the reverse is a broken pin-lug and complete but squashed rectangular catch-plate. The pin is missing. The front of the brooch is gilded and the reverse tinned.
Length 33mm. Width 26mm. Height (including glass but excluding pin-lug and catch-plate 8mm.
