Roman copper alloy Colchester Derivative Rear Hook brooch (Mackreth CD RH type). C-sectioned wings the edges damaged, scar from missing rear hook, oval-sectioned bow, most of catch-plate missing, pin and spring missing. The bow is plain, the wings decorated with a pair of angled lines and knurled rib either side of the bow. Length 39mm. Width 32mm. Mid 1st century.

'D' sectioned, expanded and flattened for bezel Set with oval black glass with chamfered sides, impressed with (now undecipherable, possible bust facing left) design, cracked and chipped. Parallel transverse engraved lines either side of setting and further engraved wavy lines around setting. Internal diameter at least 19mm, width of bezel 13mm, glass setting 9 x 11mm. 1st - 2nd Century AD (Johns, 1996, 42 - 3).

Silver finger ring of Henig's type XI with wide bezel set with an oval disc showing a scene in relief. This features a male figure reclining to the left; he holds out what appears to be a ewer towards a bird. This represents Ganymede, Jupiter's cupbearer offering a drink to his master in the form of an eagle. Depictions of Ganymede and the Eagle together with representations of Leda and the Swan and Cupid and Psyche are common in the late Roman Empire, the themes of metamorphosis and apotheosis being especially popular in that period. Fragments of silver snake finger-ring of Johns (1996) Type C, a form "which incorporates two or more complete snakes in the design" (Johns 1997, 35-7): two lengths of wire, both with a snake-head terminal and one end missing, form a loose reef knot . Part of a probably separate object, a pin with a small biconical head, passes through the centre of the knot. All three fragments move freely, although the pin is held in place by the other two pieces and cannot be withdrawn. 1st - 2nd century.

C-sectioned wings, elaborately moulded with plain narrow ribs, knurled ribs and concave mouldings, the end of one missing, with corrosion probably from solder on the rear of both. The rear hook, spring and pin are missing. Trapezoidal-sectioned bow with three median longitudinal grooves with short transverse dashes arranged alternately to give the impression of two zigzag lines. Pierced silver siliqua of Gratian, reverse VIRTVS ROMANORVM type, mintmark and further details illegible, slightly clipped and with relatively wide (2-3mm) piercing near edge (which has worn through) between 2 and 3 o'clock (obverse), weight 1.22g, AD378-83 The worn piercing shows that this coin has been reused as a pendant and thus qualifies at an item of Treasure. It is quite worn but not excessively so. The reuse as a pendant probably belongs to the 5th century although a late Roman reuse cannot be ruled out.

Probably the arched bow-section of a Roman crossbow brooch. Consisting of a triangular-sectioned curved copper alloy bar with the flat edge on the outside of the curve and the inner edge slightly rounded. There are ancient transverse breaks at both ends, one of which narrows from the outer face in a sharp curve before the break. Surviving length 48mm. Thickness 7mm. Width of bar 12.5mm. 3rd-4th century AD.
