Incomplete Roman silver finger ring of Henig type II. D-sectioned, oval hoop expanding smoothly from the narrow reverse through the shoulders and around an empty oval setting to form the bezel. The rear of the hoop is slightly distorted and a small section of the edge of the setting is missing. Width of bezel 9.5mm. Height of hoop 18mm. Width of hoop 23mm. Weight 4.4g. 1st - 2nd century AD.

Four base silver radiates fused together in a pile. Given this feature they clearly entered the ground in a similar position and, since they are of base silver, they furnish a case of Treasure. The only legible portions are provided by the face visible at each end of the pile, an obverse of Postumus from his Principal Mint and another of Gallienus from the Gallic Mint operating in the late 250s (with a GALLIENVS.P.F.AVG legend, radiate and cuirassed bust right). Incomplete silver developed crossbow brooch of Bayley and Butcher (2004) type T192. The crossbar, axis bar and pin are missing, broken at the end of the highly arched pentagonal-sectioned bow. The bow becomes abruptly circular-sectioned with a collar before the foot-plate, which is straight sided, bevelled on either edge with a single transverse rib and a pair of ribs at the upper end and two pairs of transverse ribs at the lower end. Rectangular-sectioned at the rear of the hoop, becoming D-sectioned as it expands to form highly stylised oval snake head terminals with a slight flange around the edge. Unidentified object. Copper alloy flat disc stamped on one face with 12 triangles in a circle, points facing inwards, around a very slightly raised circular moulding around a central rectangular hole. Plain on the reverse. There is a very small amount of possible decayed enamel on one triangle. The edges of the disc are certainly complete around most of the circumference but there are abraded patches which may be breaks. Diameter 20mm. Thickness 1.5mm. Weight 2.76g. A corroded and broken rectangular-sectioned shank with a circular-sectioned terminal consisting of a double-moulded collar, before tapering towards a collared, rounded knop at the apex. Total surviving length 41mm. Terminal length 22mm, diameter 9mm. Shank at most complete point 5 x 8mm. Roman copper alloy furniture fitting, perhaps a casket or box mount. Hollow backed, circular stud with the lion's face in high relief, with grooves defining the mouth and snout, and details of the eyes. The outer flange is engraved with radiating lines representing the mane around rounded ears. The reverse of the mount is filled with white metal and a central corroded iron shank. Diameter 25mm. Height 13mm. For similar examples see NMS-DB80B4, and an example from Skeleton Green, Hertfordshire (Partridge, 1981, 314, fig.119a). Circa 43 - 150 AD.

Strongly convex blade which is wide in proportion to its length, with an almost straight back which continues the line of the socket and begins to curve upwards towards the missing point. The socket is almost closed and is broken across the nail-hole. Manning (1985, 120-2, plte 57) Type 1b, The form of the cleaver is closest to Q96. The majoity of these cleavers were used for butchering meat and intended for chopping rather than slicing.

Probably Roman, fragment of unidentified object: >1mm thick, probably cast plate, broken at both ends but with apparently original curving inner and outer edges. 12mm wide at both breaks, it widens towards the centre where there is round perforation (diammeter 6mm) and, on the outer edge, a sub-square, thickened lug. If the complete object was annular and had an opposing lug, it would have measured c.70mm, with an internal diameter of c.30mm.

Romano-British Sprung copper alloy Dolphin brooch, spring, pin, part of rear hook, catchplate and tip of foot missing, end of one wing missing. On both wings a pair of baluster mouldings with a very thin wavy-line rib between them. The bow has a median arris on the reverse and on the convex front a median groove down the centre of which another thin wavy-line rib. Both groove and rib descend to the foot. Despite some recent damage the moulded details are very fresh. For this type of decoration see Hattatt no.887. Wingspan c.22mm, length >39mm. c.40-65 AD.

A cast copper alloy Roman figurine of a ram. It is well modelled with the raised head turned slightly to one side. It has curling horns, incised pointed oval shaped eyes and details on the horns and coat with a scalloped skirt around body. The recessed underside is roughly finished and has a small rectangular central depression. The legs and tail are broken. It is 42mm in length and at least 35mm wide. The ram and the goat are cult emblems of Mercury and either can be shown accompanying the god (Green 1978, 26).
