Roman copper alloy openwork mount, furniture fitting or decorative grille made from thin sheet. Broken, now triangular with two surviving sides set at slightly wider than 90 degrees, slightly raised plain repoussé border and elaborate openwork in a D-shaped panel in the surviving corner and broken across a curved panel, perhaps circular when complete. Three empty attachment holes at the edge, one in the surviving complete corner and one next to each break. Roman copper alloy furniture fitting, perhaps a casket or box mount. Hollow backed, circular stud with the lion's face in high relief, with grooves defining the mouth and snout, and details of the eyes. The outer flange is engraved with radiating lines representing the mane around rounded ears. The reverse of the mount is filled with white metal and a central corroded iron shank. Diameter 25mm. Height 13mm. For similar examples see NMS-DB80B4, and an example from Skeleton Green, Hertfordshire (Partridge, 1981, 314, fig.119a). Circa 43 - 150 AD.

C-sectioned wings, elaborately moulded with plain narrow ribs, knurled ribs and concave mouldings, the end of one missing, with corrosion probably from solder on the rear of both. The rear hook, spring and pin are missing. Trapezoidal-sectioned bow with three median longitudinal grooves with short transverse dashes arranged alternately to give the impression of two zigzag lines.
