Fragment of copper alloy Roman bow brooch, probably an Aesica type. C-sectioned wings, straight sided D-sectioned arch over fragment of flat bow. The surface is corroded and the surface and breaks very worn. No trace of decoration survives. The lower part of the plate, catch-plate, pin and spring are mising. The surviving portion is similar to an example illustrated in Hattatt (2002, 311, fig.170, no.288). Surviving width 13mm. Surviving length 22mm. 1st century AD.

Roman copper alloy incomplete blank for a Colchester Derivative type brooch. Lower part of bow, catch-plate and sprue attached at the foot survive, the upper part of the bow and wings are missing.The bow has a prominant median rib. Surviving length 61mm. Breaks ancient and worn. Very similar to examples from the same site in Bayley, MacKreth and Wallis (2001, 106, nos.SF60 and SF61).

A group of 39 sestertii dupondii and asses, the latest legible specimen of which dates to the reign of Gordian III. Although the date range spreads over more than a century, they form a compact group and their wear patterns are consistent with coins lost or buried together, the earlier coins generally showing more wear than the later ones. A single Roman gold coin, a solidus of Arcadius, found in exactly the same area as a hoard of 26 late Roman gold solidi and 4 silver siliquae discovered in 1993. This coin is plainly part of the same hoard, missed during the 1993 excavations. It was struck in 394-5, a date that exactly accords with the latest coins in the hoard and its crisp, almost mint state, similar to that of the other coins of this date present, suggests that it had not been in circulation long when the hoard was buried.
