Incomplete silver developed crossbow brooch of Bayley and Butcher (2004) type T192. The crossbar, axis bar and pin are missing, broken at the end of the highly arched pentagonal-sectioned bow. The bow becomes abruptly circular-sectioned with a collar before the foot-plate, which is straight sided, bevelled on either edge with a single transverse rib and a pair of ribs at the upper end and two pairs of transverse ribs at the lower end. Pierced silver siliqua of Gratian, reverse VIRTVS ROMANORVM type, mintmark and further details illegible, slightly clipped and with relatively wide (2-3mm) piercing near edge (which has worn through) between 2 and 3 o'clock (obverse), weight 1.22g, AD378-83 The worn piercing shows that this coin has been reused as a pendant and thus qualifies at an item of Treasure. It is quite worn but not excessively so. The reuse as a pendant probably belongs to the 5th century although a late Roman reuse cannot be ruled out.

Rectangular-sectioned at the rear of the hoop, becoming D-sectioned as it expands to form highly stylised oval snake head terminals with a slight flange around the edge. Fragment of silver Roman finger ring. The rear and one side of the oval to D-sectioned hoop is missing, expanding smoothly from the breaks through the shoulders before small notches on either side defining the edge of the oval bezel. The shoulders are decorated with a pair of grooves following each edge. In the centre of the bezel a plain, integral oval boss stands in relief imitating a setting. Silver circular disc, probably a bezel from a finger ring. The disc features a diademed head engraved in intaglio facing to the right. Encircling this is the retrograde and somewhat garbled legend ANTONI VIVAS IN DEO. Several of the letters are back-to-front but the meaning is relatively clear. The formula VIVAS IN DEO is a Christian one, the translation of this inscription being 'Antonius, may you live in God'. Two late Roman silver siliquae, both rather heavily clipped, one of Theodosius and the other of Honorius. The coins have a little wear but not much. The phenomenon of clipping siliquae seems to belong to the very last years of the 4th century and the early years of the 5th. The latest coin was struck between 395 and 402, suggesting a date of loss or deposition in the early years of the 5th century. The eight coins were discovered dispersed over a small area. The group comprises eight silver denarii. The earliest is of Julia Domna, whilst the latest are of the last members of the Severan dynasty, Elagabalus, Severus Alexander, Julia Soaemias, Julia Maesa and Julia Paula. None show much signs of wear although some are rather accreted due to the low silver content of the coins. It seems likely that the eight coins went into the ground together, either lost as part of a purse, or concealed as a hoard.
