Incomplete silver developed crossbow brooch of Bayley and Butcher (2004) type T192. The crossbar, axis bar and pin are missing, broken at the end of the highly arched pentagonal-sectioned bow. The bow becomes abruptly circular-sectioned with a collar before the foot-plate, which is straight sided, bevelled on either edge with a single transverse rib and a pair of ribs at the upper end and two pairs of transverse ribs at the lower end. Head of silver crossbow brooch with stub of narrow trapezoidal section bow. The side knobs are pinecone shaped, the upper knob more globular below an elongated finial, and there is a pair of rib mouldings before each knob. The cross arm is of hexagonal section. Iron axis bar. Keller Type 1 and Pröttel Type 1 (Swift 2000, 14). Date: Late 3rd - early 4th century. Dimensions: Width at cross arm 47mm. Weight 20.31g. The age and precious metal content of this item therefore qualify it as treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Fragment of P-shaped or crossbow brooch. Broken at both ends. Lower bow of flat 'D' section ending with a single engraved transverse line above a pair of side notches, the footplate decorated with a pair of side notches, transverse line and another pair of side notches at the break. The catchplate does not survive. It is evidenced by a small broken backwards projection on the footplate, below which all of that side of the plate is missing. A rather flimsy example. Length 19mm, width 4mm. Weight 0.62g. 3rd - 4th century.
