Silver annular brooch, as kindly identified by the finder. Cast band in the form of a heart with rounded facets alternately angled inwards and outwards. A row of pellets follows the meandering aris between the inward and outward-angled facets. One inner facet serves as a rest for a separate cast pin with doubled ridges and a V-shaped ridge at its inner end, which is set in a constriction in the band. The finder notes that the metal has been tested by a hand-held device and was found to be silver gilt. Medieval annular brooches are usually dated to 1200-1350, but the use of silver gilt …

Silver coin. Medieval penny of Edward II (1307-1327), probably class 10cf5 issue of 1307-1310, neatly rolled into a tube of external diameter 5.8mm with an overlapping seam, obverse outwards. Though Edward II came to a sudden end there is no evidence for any cult related to his unpleasant death, so retention of this altered coin as a souvenir of a martyred monarch seems unlikely. It is, however, small and slightly underweight.
