Silver button. A hollow plano-convex button with a drawn wire loop soldered to its back between two irregular holes of maximum length 2.3mm. The convex front bears the incised image of a woman with curling tresses, crowned with a simple band with five long jewels ending in pellets, and with one shoulder, bosoms and either the neckline of a garment or a string of beads indicated below the face. Silver button. Cast biconvex or sub-spherical button. The upper hemisphere is highly polished, the lower part is more dull. A basal aperture of diameter 3mm with a deeper pit of c.1.5mm diameter or less marks where the object has lost its wire loop. Suggested date: Medieval to Post-Medieval, 1300-1600. In view of the material and suggested date this object is to be submitted as possible Treasure, reference 2013 312. Diameter: 9.5mm, Thickness: 7.3mm, Weight: 2.94gms.

Silver Button front. A hollow cast hemisphere, bearing incised decoration of a triangle with diagonal hatching in each angle. The reverse bears two opposed zones of slightly expanded thickness, perhaps to engage or clench other components (now lost); these features are perhaps the only details which might argue a Modern date. Read (2005, no. 386) presents a biconvex composite button of copper alloy bearing comparable triangular incised decoration, and ascribes this to a 17th-century context. Silver Button. A concavo-convex octagonal hollow composite button with a short silver wire loop attached by copper alloy brazing to its back. The button front bears an incised design portraying a flower, perhaps a rose, with petals delineated by intersecting curving lines, and the centre of the flower by straight incised lines. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1600-1800. Diameter: 15mm, Height (excluding loop): 2.5mm, Thickness (of sheet): 0.72mm, Weight: 0.94gms.

Silver and copper alloy Button. Biconical, probably hollow, button, the front being markedly taller, with stub of a wire attachment loop on its back. The loop was broken during initial examination, revealing a purple tint indicating its material to be silver; the button front might also be silver or base silver. However, greenish corrosion is also present, so it must remain uncertain as to whether the object is a composite of copper alloy and silver, or whether this arises from brazing. A hollow domed concavo-convex button front with a separate circular loop brazed to its back – copper alloy corrosion product appears here – and with an elongated oval suspension loop of silver wire passing through that on the back of the button. Now squashed flat. Suggested date: 1600-1700 (Read 2005). Diameter: 13.70mm, Thickness: 2.61mm, Length of attachment loop: 12mm, Weight: 0.98gms.
