Cast and stamped concavo-convex flat-fronted commemorative cuff link, bearing the motif of two hearts with a crown above against a stippled field, Lewis Type 1 Form A. A bevelled rim is flattened at its outer edge. A semi-circular drawn wire link is attached to the back by a pale buff fixative and itself retains a long [14.8mm] oval link which is broken at one end. These objects are thought to have commemorated the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1661, though they may have continued to mark romantic attachment up to the reign of Queen Anne. Others suggest they fell from favour with the Glorious Revolution of 1688, because of the perceived link between the later Stuarts and Catholicism. In view of its age and material this object is to be subjected to the Treasure process, ref. 2023 T670. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1661-1702.

A two-part fixture detached from a larger object. A comma-shaped plate and a smaller plate of possibly quatrefoil form are [probably] soldered together, and a small tab on the back of the latter may relate to the fixing of both. The display side of the larger plate bears a covering of what appear to be individually applied leaves in fine stamped metal sheet and is bordered by a string of tiny pellets. The smaller round plate presents itself as a slightly concavo-convex floret with four orders of finely modelled stamped petals round a central boss: a chrysanthemum flower may be intended. An oval matrix bears the finely incised curvilinear motif or monogram – a letter W or G might be present, though this reporter would defer to a better-informed reading. It proved impossible to obtain a clear imprint in modelling clay. The matrix is set on the underside of an oval with an integrally cast circular base to a collared handle above it. A lentoid bar over the collar supports a pair of incurved members which support a thinner curved strand to close the loop. The base also rises to protrude into the loop between the opposed struts. Bryony Pateman (2008, An illustrated guide to Collecting Seals, Whitehall Press, London, page 110 nos 72-73, also pp. 124 and 186 ) suggests dating of 1725-1775 for matrices of a similar though not identical form. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1725-1775

The upper half of a finger ring with a narrow band of D-section expanding from the shoulders to form a neatly grooved or collared oval bezel on top of which a triskele is moulded in bold relief. A ring around the flat plinth above which the triskele appears is very finely billeted, cf. Guiraud Type 4, which includes a collared bezel amongst a range of attributes. The wearing of finger rings was a Roman custom and silver was probably available only through sources controlled by Romans under their rule, but the Triskele recalls a preoccupation with all things triune which is essentially Celtic. Originally taken to be silver, but the manified view afforded by photographs suggests copper alloy lies below a black and possibly silver-plated surface. Suggested date: Roman, 100-300.
