Hollow hemispherical boss with a smooth internal surface and a textured outer surface retaining extensive traces of gilding and six short lengths of probably silver drawn wire of diameter 2.1mm. Unidentified item of jewellery of early Anglo-Saxon date. The object is a melted fragment of silver, with both faces having the wrinkled surface resulting from the melting and congealing of metal. On one face a scrap of decorative detail survives; a strip 2mm wide decorated with two rows of punched triangles set apex-inward and one above the other, to give an impression of a reserved zig-zag in between.
