The bezel of a late medieval finger-ring, consisting of a heart sprouting flowers held by two hands. The remainder of the hoop is lost. These rings occur quite frequently as friendship or fede rings. The ring is silver-gilt and dates from the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. Dimensions: length 18 mm, height 8 mm. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Silver Finger Ring. Cast ring; traces of stamped or incised decoration remain on the outside of the band, perhaps including the depiction of a buckle, now reduced to a smoothed rib. A hallmark is stamped on the inside of the ring: probably Birmingham assay office (anchor); if year stamp is Y then for 1873. There is an adjacent maker's or owner's stamp of letters GG:L. Suggested date: Modern, 1849-1899. Internal diameter: 20.1mm, Band width: 7mm, Thickness: 1.1mm, Weight: 3.89gms.

A silver or base silver finger ring in two fragments. The larger fragment is a flat oval bezel with adjoining broad shoulders decorated by three circumferential moulded ribs. Traces of copper alloy corrosion and a bright silvery spot on the bezel may suggest the loss of a setting attached by solder. A smaller fragment comes from the junction of the broad ribbed shoulders of the ring with a narrower band; it may have joined the larger fragment, though was apparently found separately. Suggested date: Roman, 4AD 200-400. Lengths: 19.32mm and 12.04mm, Widths: 14.17mm and 7.25mm, Thi…

Roman silver finger-ring set with a dark blue to black glass or stone, much degraded. The ring is of 'keeled' type, the hoop semi-circular in section, which expands and swells to form triangular shoulders with raised mouldings. The flattened bezel is waisted in plan and set with an oval stone. The design is difficult to interpret but appears to show a figure seated right on a throne holding out an object in a raised hand. It might be a representation of Jupiter, but it is difficult to judge as it is so heavily worn. Discussion: for a parallel see Henig 2007, no. 5. Date: 3rd cen…

Bezel of a Roman finger ring, probably of Henig Type 2. The oval bezel narrows at either end, where slightly thickened shoulders joined the band (now lost). The display face bears an irregular spiral patch of rough material, surrounded by whitish material . This probably represents the degraded remains of enamel, as this class of ring is frequently decorated with concentric patterns in enamel. Early Roman, 100-200. X-ray fluorescence analysis identified the metal of the finger-ring fragment as copper-alloy, with less than 1% precious metal. Dimensions: Length: 15.6 mm; Widt…

Silver and glass paste Finger Ring. Cast broad penannular band which tapers towards opposed rounded ends. An oval bezel was held in a compartment standing proud of the band by 4.5mm; this retains a pale greenish deposit, perhaps degraded paste, enamel or fixative. With the exception of this setting the ring is complete, though one end is now bent inwards. Suggested date: Roman, 40-400. As a silver item, this object is to be considered as potential Treasure, reference 2011 T385. Internal diameter: 18mm, Band Width: 13.5mm, Band Thickness: 1.8mm, Weight: 6.98gms.

Silver Finger ring. Band of very slightly plano-convex section bearing faint traces of worn vertical and horizontally inscribed decoration, perhaps the remnant of a billeted scheme. The band is broken although complete. The finder suggests an Anglo-Saxon date, though finger rings dated to the Early Medieval period with such a scheme as is suspected here are more massive than this example. Suggested date: Unknown, 1600-1900. This reporter considers a lack of assured and diagnostic detail precludes such dating as would be required to embark on a Treasure process. Internal diameter: …

Base silver finger ring. Bezel of hollow cast base silver ring, inscribed: GENIO DECCI, 'to the genius of Deccius'. Sub-rectangular bezel is made from folded sheet, which has broken either side of the bezel, presumably where the curving shoulders of the ring had introduced weakness - rather than showing any evidence for selection or deliberate removal of the 'inscribed' legend - which appears more likely to have been stamped than inscribed. Silver Small decorative plaque, possibly a ring bezel or other decorative inset. An elongated flat oval fragment of silver sheet bears unidentified black material set into its display face; the black material appears to bear a pale motif, possibly floral, at one end. Fragment of Roman silver finger-ring. Originally with a broad hoop elliptical in cross-section, the surviving fragment is of one expanding shoulder with lipped edges and a rounded and raised central moulding. There is a sharp carination to the flat rectangular bezel, of which only a small section remains. This appears to have the incised remains of an inscription, with the downstroke and part of the cross stroke of a serifed 'T' visible (the serifs in the form of distinctive double forks). Although little of the inscription remains, it seems likely that originally the inscription re…

Silver and gemstone finger ring fragment. Cast band of flat D section, expanding towards a sunken bezel retaining a flat oval stone of length 11.2mm with lightly bevelled edges, of a dull orange tint with golden reflective particles. Indistinct traces of a monogram suggest this may be a worn signet ring. Decoration comprises fine rocker work borders to the shoulders and bezel of the ring, the former confining incised curvilinear vegetal scrolls, and sprays at the sides of the bezel. About one third of the hoop is lost. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1725-1800. Internal diameter: …
