Silver brooch. A thin sheet metal rhomboid frame with a constriction to serve as a pin seat in one corner; the pin is lost. The sides are all slightly canted inwards. Though clearly not circular, the features, size and function of the object more closely resemble that of an annular brooch than of other types (compare LANCUM-FC0A45 in copper alloy, and silver LEIC-06D25B [Treasure case 2016 T2376]). The two sides opposite the pin seat each bear a panel of probably stamped decoration. This may be intended to resemble lettering, being formed of letter-like forms in which O, and H or N or…

Silver badge. Stamped metal plate depicting a straight-sided heraldic shield within a band where cables support a plaque for a basal legend reading M/S  A/S [standing for Mine Sweeping/ Anti-Submarine], surmounted by a crown with jewelled band and castellated projections made up of the mainsails and aft view of an early 19th-century warship; a historic First Rate like Victory is intended. The shield is charged with a reticulate pattern – in this case apt as it represents a steel net - in which two mines and a trapped shark speared by a marlin spike appear. Notation: RD 83775…

Biconical silver bead, probably made from thin sheet and now preserved by being full of clayey soil. The cross-section of the sheet is visible where a small patch is missing on one side. The bead is made in two halves, each with gently convex curved sides and a circular hole c. 2mm in diameter at the narrow end; the seam would probably originally have been soldered together, but now appears to be split along its length. There is no decoration either at the seam or the holes, or around either half. Biconical metal beads of this kind are known from the late 6th century but they becom…

Silver bell fragment. A hollow hemisphere of beaten silver with the stub of a loop soldered to its end and with a circumferential groove between that and its edge, which bears a series of tiny [length 1.3mm] equidistantly spaced ribs which would have assured a tight fit with the other half of a hawking bell. In view of its suspected age, which is over 300 years, and its material, which is thought to be silver, the object is to be submitted to the Treasure process, ref. 2017T1001. Silver Possible Hacksilver. Fragment of silver sheet, with scalloped edge, two vertical folds and two vertically incised lines on its external surface. A tiny circular hole (diameter c.1mm) at the end of one of the incised lines may relate to its attachment; given the size this might have been sewn or tied to clothing or a bead string. Alternatively, the folds and incised lines might suggest this to be a fragment from a small pyramid-shaped bell. The collection of scrap silver is also characteristic of the Viking Age period.
