Silver Coin. Half Crown or Florin. Milled edges. Victoria (1837-1901), possibly issue of 1849-1851 (Spink 2004, no. 3890 gives similar reverse to this). Reverse description: Crowned Arms of England, Scotland, England (?again) and Ireland, with roses on stems in two angles, other flowers in others, all under tressured arches. A silver medieval strap-end, made from sheet metal folded lengthways (see Egan and Pritchard, no. 605, page 131). The tapering form of the strap-end terminates in an angular knop of sub-acorn type. The surface of the front of the strap-end is decorated at its widest place with a saltire cross, incised with a grooved border. On the reverse is evidence of the remains of a rivet, which would have held the fabric or leather in place. The strap-end is silver, and dates from around 1350-1400 (see Egan and Pritchard above). A silver or base silver finger ring in two fragments. The larger fragment is a flat oval bezel with adjoining broad shoulders decorated by three circumferential moulded ribs. Traces of copper alloy corrosion and a bright silvery spot on the bezel may suggest the loss of a setting attached by solder. A smaller fragment comes from the junction of the broad ribbed shoulders of the ring with a narrower band; it may have joined the larger fragment, though was apparently found separately.
