Silver cuff link. A pair of octagonal plates, each with a loop brazed to its back - as suggested by green corrosion around each loop - and joined to each other by a single long oval silver link. Each plate bears a stamped motif of a four petalled flower with a diamond or lozenge between each pair of petals, the negative impressions of these devices being visible on the back of each plate. The petals are filled with finely spaced longitudinally incised lines while the area where they meet is cross hatched, and each diamond has a tiny stamped lozenge within its outline. Each edge of the…

Silver cufflink fragment, as kindly identified by the finder. Composite object comprising a concavo-convex discoid back plate with a stamped openwork disc bearing a radial pattern of billeted petals or fronds attached, probably by a central domed rivet. Silver cuff link fragment. Rectangular plate with clipped corners with the stubs of a loop set centrally on the back. The display face bears an incised image of a boat with latteen sail with water in the foreground and reeds in the distance. The boat has a small raised area towards the stern where a steersman is represented, and a large rudder he may be operating with a bar tiller. A dense series of vertical lines might be taken for the oars of a galley, but, given the size of the steersman, these are more probably a decorative shading texture, and the boat is a smaller one-man vessel.…

Silver and glass probable cuff link fragment. Pressed metal disc with an upstanding rim which retains a deposit of granular off-white material, presumably fixative, or possibly a smore similar material to the stone itself. A separate bead of facetted form and diameter 6.4mm may be a degraded glass paste stone, and was presented along with its putative setting. A slot in the back of the disc is presumably for a link [now lost] connecting this object with its counterpart. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1700-1800. Diameter: 12.0mm, Height (with stone): 5.7mm, Thickness (wall of disc):…

Silver cuff link, as kindly identified by the finder. Discoid sheet metal plate with rim; a silver loop is soldered to the back. The front bears a central vegetal motif with radially spiralling leaves within a central sunken panel framed by a series of tiny juxtaposed triangular stamps. A further linear border divides the surrounding plain field from an outer zone of juxtaposed pellets, again within a sunken gutter. Crumpled at opposite sides. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1660-1720. In view of its age and material the object is to be submitted to the Treasure process, ref. 2017 T184…

Silver cuff link fragment. One half of a pair of linked discs, with a flat front and bevelled rim, hollow behind and retaining off-white fixative for a chain [now lost] between the two discs. The front bears the romantic motif of paired hearts below a tall wide open crown. This motif is associated with the marriage of Charles II (1660-1685) to Catherine of Braganza, though it may well have remained in currency after the displacement of the House of Stuart. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1660-1700. In view of its age and probable material, this object is to be subjected to the Treasure…

Silver cuff link fragment. A flat discoid plate standing proud of a plain rim, with a stamped motif comprising a pair of hearts below an arched crown with joining hands between crown and hearts, the hands projecting from ill-defined marginal features representing their owners. A central scar on the reverse shows the former position of an element connecting this plate with a counterpart. This is a variation upon a romantic theme traditionally associated with loyal celebration of the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1661. The motif remained popular at least until the …

Silver cuff link fragment. Cast concavo-convex hollow boss with seven triangular panels radiating from an incised line surrounding a tiny central boss or nipple. Each panel is defined by a pair of incised lines, and made up of [typically] six incised lines between these borders. Black material and rust stains within the concave interior may suggest a fixative attaching this to a back plate [lost], and perhaps a steel loop attaching the assembled whole to a counterpart.
