Silver thimble. Cast open topped thimble or sewing ring with a broad plain foot ring, a plain zone above divided by a circumferential ridge, and about 13 rows of closely spaced punched indentations. It is uncertain whether this was made as an open thimble or whether it was domed and has lost its top. Now squashed flat, damage which may have detached a top part if one was originally present. Suggested date: Modern, 1800-1900. Height: 20.7mm, Width: 23.5mm, Thickness (foot ring): 1.1mm, Weight (with some trapped soil): 3.60gms

Silver thimble. Pressed metal conical thimble with rounded top. A scalloped base bears very fine indentations and a vegetal scroll is applied to thiszone. Above it a plain field bears further rouletted scrolls, probably again of a floral or vegetal design. Above this the upper half of the thimble bears closely spaced indentations, which continue onto the top in concentric rings. The sides of the thimble are dented, and about seven perforations carry through its upper indented sides. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1900.
