It consists of a flat triangular part with a integral hook projecting from the centre of the straight edge. It measures 31.9mm in total length and 15.7mm in width across the flat triangular part, which is 2.9mm in thickness. The hook is rectangular in cross-section and measures 9.4mm in length and 9.3mm in width, it curves forwards overhanging the triangular part and then backwards.
This object could have been attached to a vessel via solder originally although no traces of any solder or other attachment device can now be seen. More normally Roman vessel mounts have one concave face which is filled with a lead solder allowing them to be attached to the vessel.
The originaly surface is no longer present due to corrosion and only a tiny dark brown fragment of the original patina survives, the rest of the surface is a light powdery green.Daniel Pett31.97Great BartonSF-0111F8125246mount3finders reference 12VESSELRestricted Accessfinds-1252461115.710SF-011563Complete43images/fminter/295035001441012D901BF542006-03-09T11:34:49ZProbablyx412182006-02-01T00:00:00Z0ROMANCopper alloy41425RO1Circa21http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ROMANPossiblyCivil Parish2022-07-14T07:07:22.401ZSuffolk10CountyPOST MEDIEVAL1Metal detectorBURSF-1953C5.JPG159342005From a paper map1155321RODistrictCertainSF156741650Restricted Accessx41218Mid Suffolk110942011-02-24T12:19:48ZReturned to finderEasternCircaFour lead probable pot mends, most likely to be Roman or later in date.

This vessel has been identified by Geoff Egan as medieval and 14-15th century. There are jagged holes in the sides where they join the base due to wear and corrosion, indeed most of the vessel is a powdery light green colour due to active corrosion. The sides may have been straight originally they are now sloping outwards in areas due to distortion.
The rim is a small lip formed by bending over the top of the sides and appears to have been set at right angles to the sides originally. Parts of this rim are now missing, and worn and bent downwards. In one area there is a rectangular patch riveted with two squareish rivets just below the rim and then bent over the rim, where the original rim has split, there were two more rivets holding this patch to the rim, one now survives. Geoff Egan comments that the sheet rivets in this possible repair patch look to be the folded-staple type rather than the later spiralled conical ones - and it is this rivet form which dates the vessel to the medieval period. Similar rivets have been found through medieval sheet vessels in London (Egan, 2005 p101).
The rim has other rivet holes through it, three of which have corroded iron within them, two of these holes are next to each other, c7cm apart, and here there are also rectangular fragments of corroded iron beneath the rim. Geoff Egan commenets that this now fragmentary iron attachment is puzzling, indeed unparallelled in his experience of sheet bowls.
The rim and the outer face of the sides and the base have a black sooty deposit adhering to them, indicating that the vessel has been used in an open fire.
