Fragment of an unusual Early Saxon copper alloy small-long brooch, worn and broken, upper part and most of bow missing, fragment of one end with facets, footplate with flanking lappets, broken grooved transverse moulding, terminal missing. Extant length 28mm. Width 25.5mm. Weighs 5.86g. Very corroded Medieval gilt copper alloy champlevé enamelled convex casket mount or mount from a cross in the form of robed male figure, a priest wearing a dalmatic, much detail is lost. The lower end is missing. The head and neck are solid but the remainder of the reverse is hollow. Small areas of blue enamel and gilding are extant. The eyes comprise blue glass pellets. Medieval copper alloy shield-shaped armorial mount probably from harness. There is a lateral projection on both sides at the upper angle and a third projection from the point at the base of the shield. Each projection is in the form of a short cast leg ending in a perforated three-toed foot, thereby raising the plate from the surface to which it was riveted in order to allow a strap to pass behind the mount. Incomplete Medieval white-metal coated strap-end consisting of socket, waist and "lyre-shaped" openwork main part. On the front of the socket what appears to be a crowned black-letter b, to be viewed with the socket pointing downwards. Two iron rivets are driven through the top of the inscription. In the centre of the broken and incomplete 'lyre' element are the remains of a bird (possibly an eagle), terminal missing.
