Worn and very corroded Medieval gilt copper alloy annular framed brooch. The convex face of the D-sectioned frame is segmented by eight transverse grooves forming four broad and four narrow alternating sections, the broad ones with traces of decorative 'brambling' (created by multiple punched circles), and has the remains of a collared gilt copper alloy pin (most of shank missing) in the constriction in the frame. Weight 2.11g. Outer and inner diameters 17 and 9mm. Thickness 2mm. 13th - 14th century.
