Neolithic  (c. 4,000 - 2,500 BC) flint axe: The flint axe has been knapped from flint which is now a mottled mid to dark grey. The axe has been knapped across the surface leaving only three small patches of cortex on the body of the axe. In plan the axe is an elongated oval which tapers slightly at one end. The narrowed terminal is slightly pointed but overall it would be classed as an ovate shape. In section the axe is a sub-pointed oval which is quite bulbous. The axes measures 93.37mm long, 39.32mm wide, 24.21mm thick and weighs 83.48g. The axe dates to the Neolithic bas…

Mesolithic to Neolithic (c. 6,500 to c. 2,200 BC) core: The core is traingular in section and sub-rectangular in profile. One face is almost completely covered in cortex. The core appears to be used to produce long, parrallel blades of varying width. The core has one striking platform to remove blades, The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour. The core measures 75.77mm long, 28.67mm wide, is 22.58mm thick and weighs 61.29 grams. The core probably dates to the Mesolithic to Neolithic period when taking into account of the single striking platform, blades, and parrell…

A late Mesolithic or Neolithic flint blade or flake: In section the blade is trapezoidal and in plan is sub-triangular. The dorsal surface has three main vertical scars. The ventral surface has ripples, bulb of percussion and bulbar scars. The proximal end is broken and missing, but this is not contemporary to the knapping as the mottled blue and white patina does not cover the break. The break reveals an opaque brown coloured flint. It measures 15.16mm long, 16.43mm wide, and weighs 1.6g. The flint is mottled pale blue/grey which is the patina. The blade dates to the l…

Mesolithic (9,000 to 4,000BC) core: The core is cylindrical with a sub-oval section. The core appears to be used to produce short, narrow blades and has two striking platforms, one either end. There is some recent abrasion and crazing at each terminal edge. The flint is a dark grey colour. The core measures 25.92mm long, 21.29mm wide, is 20.95mm thick and weighs 15.04g. The core dates to the Mesolithic period, based on the small blade scars.

Probable Mesolithic to early Neolithic (-9000 to -2900) serrated blade or denticulate: The knapped mid grey/brown mottled coloured flint artefact appears to have been formed from a flake which is triangular in section. One lateral edge has been re-touched forming very small notches (denticulations), mainly knapped from the dorsal surface. The other lateral edge has fine serrations. The tip, distal end , is slightly truncated due to re-touch on the dorsal surface. The blade weighs 3.23g and measures 41.16mm long, 15.22mm wide and 6.25mm thick. The blade is probably Mesolithic to e…

Knapped flint tertiary debitage: The flake is knapped from a dark grey coloured flint. The dorsal surface has multiple small slender scars which are mainly vertical, but some are obliquely angled. The ventral surface is smooth and has slight ripples, the bulb of percussion is missing. The flake weighs 3.38g and measures 30.49mm long, 21.24mm wide, and 5.15mm thick. The flake is prehistoric, probably dating to the Mesolithic to Neolithic period (-8300 to -2100) when considering the size of the scars on the dorsal surface.

The implements' overall original shape is difficult to determine, but what remains is triangular. The axe is bifacially flaked with rolled edges.
