Solid cast copper-alloy leg from a vessel. It is D-shaped in cross-section with a flat reverse, and has a ridge across it a little over halfway down. Above the ridge the leg has a central ridge flanked by two grooves and two further ridges, making three parallel ribs; below, the foot flares and thickens, and consists of five ribs. The top of the leg is broken straight across and the break is fairly worn. The base of the foot is slightly rounded and slanted, so that the leg would flare out from the vessel, and the reverse is flat.
It is 48mm long, 18.6mm wide and 8.6mm thick at th…

Lead pot mend, one face larger, flatter and sub-triangular, the other smaller, lumpier and D-shaped. The larger face measures 21 x 23mm and has concentric wrinkles, probably caused by shrinkage on cooling. The smaller face measures 17 x 13mm. The total thickness is 8mm and the object weighs 15.72g. Probably medieval, possibly Roman.

Large cast copper-alloy leg from a post-medieval cooking vessel, rounded on the front and hollowed on the reverse. The front is decorated below the break with three ribs (little of this area survives) then it has a transverse ridge with oblique grooves on it giving the impression of a twisted cable. Below this the leg flares and is decorated with five longitudinal ribs. All surfaces except for the break are sooted. It measures 49mm long, 36mm wide and 18mm thick at the base, 25mm wide and 11mm thick at the break, and weighs 116.47g.

Fragment of rim from a cast copper alloy cooking vessel. Using a rim diameter chart the overall diameter of the rim appears to be c. 25cm. In cross-section the rim is thickened to 5.6mm, and out-turned with a slightly concave exterior; it then tapers to a sharp edge. A short length of the body or side wall of the vessel survives, 4.0mm thick at the break. The interior is concave in cross-section below the thickened rim. The interior is polished smooth, with a grey patina which is worn away on the thickest part of the rim. The exterior is rougher, and sooted. Length 94mm, width of frag…

Fragment of copper-alloy bull's head mount from a bucket or similar vessel, of late Iron Age or early Roman date. Only the centre survives, with one well-preserved eye (the animal's left) made from a gradual swelling outlined with a double pointed-oval groove. The other eye is largely lost along with most of the surface, which has suffered badly from corrosion; where the surface survives it is grey and glossy, and looks like a white-metal coating. In the centre, above and between the eyes, is a circular hole 6mm in diameter. To either side are broken-off projections which may original…

Part of the rim of a large-diameter cast copper-alloy cooking vessel, slightly sooted on the outside, all breaks worn. It is relatively thin-walled at no more than 3mm thick, and has few diagnostic features, although the last 5mm or so of the rim is slightly out-turned. 45mm long along rim, 36mm wide perpendicular to this. Weighs 23.7g. Probably from the everted rim of a cauldron, and late medieval or early post-medieval, perhaps c. 1350-1700.

Large cast copper-alloy leg from a cooking vessel of late medieval or early post-medieval date, c. 1350-1700. It is incomplete, being broken at the top (worn break) and is gently curved outwards along its length to make a slight foot at the base. In cross-section it is thick and generally flat, but has a low midrib. The sides are parallel and curve to meet at the foot in a U shape. There is sooting on both front and reverse.
Surviving length c. 86mm, width 38mm, maximum thickness 14mm, weight 198.9g.

Lead pot mend or vessel repair. One face is smooth, flat and sub-rectangular, measuring c. 36 x 26mm and generally c. 7mm thick. The other half is a solid domed oval lump of lead, measuring c. 31 x 21mm and c. 12mm thick. The two halves are not oriented in the same plane, so the total length is c. 39mm and the total width c. 32mm. Between the two are sandwiched dark grey fragments of pottery of reduced fabric, identified by Andrew Rogerson as likely to be medieval. He further comments that the fragments are likely to be from the base of a pot as the thickness varies from 3mm to 6mm. T…

Copper-alloy 'paperclip' rivet, now incomplete. It consists of a piece of sheet metal with tapering ends, most edges now broken. The ends are very neatly folded back to the centre and then again back on themselves like a paper-fastener, but are broken just after this second fold. Length from complete fold to complete fold, 18mm; one corner has now been bent out to bring the maximum length to 21mm. Perpendicular to this, the edges are broken and the surviving width is 19mm. Surviving thickness 5mm, weight 3.85g. A fragment of what appears to be corroded iron (not reacting to a magnet)…

Cast copper-alloy leg from a cooking vessel. At the top it retains some of the integrally cast body of the vessel. The leg itself is D-shaped in cross-section with a prominent midrib which runs the full length of the leg and up onto the body of the vessel. It tapers from about 34mm wide where it joins the body, to 20mm wide at the base; the sides are straight. About 15mm above the base there is a transverse moulding which runs over, but does not interrupt, the midrib. The flat reverse retains sooting. Total length including some of vessel body, 90mm. Maximum width with vessel body, 43…
