Composite copper-alloy buckle frame and integral plate. The frame is oval with a distinct knop at the pin rest, and 22 mm wide. The integral forked spacer has a plate soldered to each face leaving a hole for the (missing) pin. There is a single copper-alloy rivet at the attachment end and the plate is 15 mm wide. The frame and spacer are a dark grey colour, and there are patches of dark grey coating on the plate; the dark grey probably represents a decayed white-metal coating. Length 41 mm.

Very unusual rectangular copper-alloy buckle frame. The 3 mm thick bar is inset a little way, not at a perfect right angle to the sides, and is rather crudely formed. The top and bottom sides of the buckle frame are triangular, running between the bar and the expanded angled outer edge. This outer edge is rectangular (26 x 10 mm) and set at a sharp angle, with three projecting knobs down each short edge. There is a small notch in the centre of one long side forming the pin rest. The knobs and the inset bar seem best paralleled among later Anglo-Saxon or Anglo-Scandinavian material…

Unusual double-looped buckle frame, both loops of the 'oval with offset bar' shape common in the medieval period. The bar is quite chunky - nearly 3 mm in diameter - and there is a little moulding where it meets the frame. One outer edge has a straight thickened moulding reminiscent of 12th to 14th century single-looped buckle frames. The buckle is slightly angled about the bar. Overall dimensions 36 x 21 mm.

Single-looped buckle frame made of copper alloy. The outer edge is D-shaped in section with rounded edges, and ends in an animal head at each end of the narrowed circular-section bar. The animal heads are small but neatly modelled; each has triangular ears pressed back against the frame, and a long rounded snout, perhaps slightly upturned. There are traces of possible oblique grooves on the frame. 20 x 22 mm.

Buckle frame, plate and pin. The frame is oval and 17 mm wide with an offset narrowed bar and a pointed and grooved pin rest. There are transverse filemarks all around the frame. The plate is sub-rectangular, 21 mm long including the hinge loops and flaring from 10 to 12 mm wide. It is made from a piece of copper-alloy sheet folded in half and closed with a single substantial copper-alloy rivet with a flat head. There are small frame recesses and a pin slot ending in a circular cut-out, in which a substantial copper-alloy pin still swivels. The pin is wrapped around the bar and has a …

Unusually constructed buckle plate. Basically rectangular, it is made from one piece of copper-alloy sheet folded in half with an incurve cut into the folded end and then a pin slot cut into the centre of the incurve. There are no frame recesses. Two outer plates are then riveted onto the folded plate with two large, clumsy copper-alloy rivets, one very close to the pin slot. One of these extra outer plates is then folded back in half and neatly ends at the start of the hinge loops, with two neat small circular rivet holes here. The other extra outer plate is bent and broken at the en…

Medieval spur buckle made of gilded copper alloy, with oval frame and integral plate. The plate tapers steeply from the frame and has two transverse grooves, a circular pin hole (retaining a fragment of copper-alloy pin) and a rivet hole with copper-alloy rivet. There is a very narrow waist (2 mm wide) then a large fleur-de-lis terminal with two little projections in the angles between the leaves of the lis. The terminal is pierced with a second rivet hole which has lost its rivet. Spur buckles of this shape are a fairly common find, but have almost always lost their terminals.
