Chalk spindle whorl, circular and plano-convex or slightly biconvex, and 37 mm in diameter. The circular perforation is 10 mm in diameter and slightly off-centre, and is cylindrical except for a slight flare at the flatter face. The chalk is hard and white with tiny black flecks and an area of brown staining.

Made from a coarse grained quartzite erratic with some possible shaping (or accidental damage) around the perimeter. The irregular oval working surface (280 x 200 mm) is dished to a depth of c. 35 mm and is pitted near its centre. Overall dimensions approximately 345 x 220 x 120 mm. Saddle querns were been in use in Britain from the late Neolithic into the Iron Age, being then replaced by rotary querns in many areas, but may have persisted in some places later.

Cylindrical stone object, made from quartzite, 86 mm in diameter and 54 mm thick. Both of the circular faces are smoothly polished; one face also has a hole 23-25 mm in diameter and c. 25 mm deep drilled into it. For most of its depth this hole is straight-sided, but the top 8 mm or so flares outwards and is rough, as if it has fractured off. The outer walls of the cylinder have rough 'pecking' marks (resulting from shaping) that have not been polished away. Fragment of rotary quern made from puddingstone. Plano-convex, less than a quarter survives with no trace of the central hole. Probably an upper stone, although there is also no trace of a hole in the outside for a turning stick, or of iron bands to hold a handle for turning. Rounded orange or occasionally orange/red inclusions. Original diameter approx. 320 mm, height 90 mm, too heavy to weigh with a conventional balance. The stone for these querns comes from Hertfordshire and the centre for their manufacture may have been the Verulamium area.

Irregular perforated weight or spindle-whorl made from chalk. Sub-rectangular with rounded corners when viewed either from the top or the side, it measures 27 x 34 mm and is 15 mm thick. It is either not particularly well made or has suffered some damage, as it has a rather lumpy outline. The circular perforation is a little off-centre and is symmetrically waisted, narrowing slightly to c. 10 mm minimum diameter. Block of possible sandstone, hollowed out cylindrically inside to make a possible vessel. Externally there is a carination close to the base. The rim is missing (surviving height 98 mm) and the breaks are abraded. There are three cracks around the circumference which have been eroded externally to form clefts. Internally the surface is a reddened orangey colour, and externally there is an orange patch close to a blackened patch; the colours appear to have sunk in between the grains of stone, like pigment or lichen. Perforated pebble-hammer. Irregularly oval or sub-triangular in shape, relatively flat and small, with a drilled central perforation. Each edge is convex; there are two chips off the straightest and longest edge, but otherwise the object is complete. The stone is fine-grained with a smooth hard surface, and pale/medium brown. The perforation is relatively straight, and this suggests a Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date rather than Mesolithic. Spindle whorl made from some kind of stone, probably sandstone but possibly lava. It is globular, with its widest point (35 mm in diameter) not at the midpoint but three-fifths of the way towards one end. It measures 25 mm from one end of the central circular perforation to the other, and the perforation flares from 7 mm at the more pointed end to 9 mm at the more rounded end. Saddle quern made from fine-grained hard stone with few visible inclusions, likely to be a glacial erratic. It has an evenly rounded base and wide, gently sloped-out or bevelled edges around an oval hollow or concave area in the centre measuring 200 x 280mm. No part of the wide edge survives complete; there is much relatively recent damage, with conchoidal fractures.
