Complete small-long brooch in excellent condition. Made from copper alloy with no obvious trace of a surface coating, it has a rectangular headplate which is undecorated except for a small V-shaped bevelled nick in the centre of the top edge. One corner of the headplate is slightly bent. On the reverse of the headplate is a single pin bar lug with remains of the iron pin bar. The bow is triangular in cross-section, flat on the reverse, and there is no flat panel at top or bottom, or any other trace of decoration. It is slightly worn at its highest point. Head and bow from a copper-alloy small-long brooch. The head is square and has a border of deep but indistinct punchmarks around three edges, with the lowest edge next to the bow undecorated. The top and sides each have a tiny knob; the knobs are all identical, with half-round moulding decorated with a fine groove, then a broader groove, then a hemispherical terminal which may once have had a fine groove across its base. On the reverse of the headplate is what is probably a single pin bar lug now hidden in a mass of iron corrosion from the pin bar and spring. The bow has a flat pan…

The breaks are reasonably fresh. It weighs 50.35g.
There are two other rim fragments from cooking vessels from this group of finds, all probably from different vessels. The type was in use for a long period, from th…

The slot is outlined with a narrow engraved line. In the centre of the lower half is a double-line circle divided into by the slot. Copper-alloy brooch in the shape of a three-dimensional bird. The bird’s head may be slightly damaged, but seems always to have had a short beak, and there are two dot eyes. The short neck curves down to continue into the back of the bird as a long ridge, with a folded wing to either side; the wings are outlined with more small dots. The dots are neater on one wing than the other. A double ridge, each one decorated with a fine groove which has now almost worn away, separates the body of the bird from the flared tail. The tail is also outlined with similar dots. On the concave un…

Copper-alloy disc, 27 mm in diameter and 4 mm thick. In the centre of one face is a circular boss 8 mm in diameter, surrounded by a broad groove. There is a border around with relief decoration of eight stylised leaves, probably derived from acanthus leaf ornament. The other face is flat and undecorated with no apparent means of attachment. The decoration looks broadly neo-classical and so the object is probably 18th century, but its function is uncertain. 19.24g.

Circular domed mount made from copper alloy with corroded iron backing, probably a bridle boss. The copper-alloy element is 65 mm in diameter and relatively thin. It has a border groove and the flange around the dome has three evenly spaced but rather large and crudely made copper-alloy rivets which at first sight look like ring-and-dot motifs. On the reverse, corroded iron spreads from the rivets across the centre. The central dome is 30 mm in diameter and about 7 mm tall, with a slight depression and perhaps an iron rivet at the centre. There are several similar bosses recorded on t…
