Copper-alloy saddle pommel of post-medieval date (c. 1500-1700). It was apparently made in two halves which have been brazed together at a raised seam. Six further slightly lower ribs, each flanked by grooves, radiate from the midpoint of the seam, converging at a point which has a circular attachment hole just to one side. To either side of the point, both wings are lost (fairly old breaks) before there is another original curving edge at the back. It is 71mm tall, a maximum of 40mm in diameter, and weighs 116.1g. Copper-alloy cap from a wooden saddle pommel, U-shaped in section. One end has a long central rounded projection ending in a small sharp V-shaped point, and a rivet hole halfway between each corner and the start of the projection. The other end has some old breaks, but was originally tapered to a rounded end with a circular cut-out. The pommel is decorated with a double-line engraved border which encloses curvilinear engraved decoration, perhaps of flowers, with a triple-curved transverse band close to the tapered rounded end.
