Description: Fragment of gilded silver pilgrim badge, now bent and cracked, showing a figure and a dragon. The fragment is cast in one piece with a flat reverse and relief-decorated front. It is L-shaped, with part of a horizontal base which the vertical figure stands on the left-hand end of. The surviving part of the base is decorated with a dragon's head in profile looking towards the figure, with a long pointed ear, rounded brow, and an open mouth from which a tongue protrudes. Beneath the head is a pair of short forelegs bent forwards. In front of the dragon, an…

Description: Well-preserved gilded silver openwork pilgrim badge depicting St Margaret and the dragon. The saint is wearing a flat-topped crown, below which her hair frames her face; the face has no detail except for a nose. She wears a vertically ribbed garment and holds a book in her left hand and a cross in her right (so the book is on the viewer's right and the cross is on the viewer's left). The book appears to have a clasp on one edge. The cross's shaft is thrust into the open mouth of the dragon, whose belly-up body curves round below to form the edge of the badge; M…

Description: Small and incomplete gilded silver medieval pilgrim badge, with the openwork design of St George on foot, and the dragon. It has lost its upper half, and now consists only of the dragon and two legs of St George from the knees downwards. The surviving part, including both breaks, is very worn, with gilding surviving only in the recesses. The dragon is shown in profile, and its curved back and neck forms the base of the pendant. The head is to the viewer's right and the tail to the left. The head has a square snout which is now not joined to any other part of the badg…

Lead-alloy pilgrim's badge depicting St Andrew, now bent in half. An upright rectangular plaque, it has a surviving projection at one lower corner that would originally have extended to a stitching loop; the other three corners are broken. St Andrew is in the centre of the plaque, wearing a striped or pleated gown drawn in at the waist; his limbs are splayed as if attached to an X-shaped cross. He faces the observer, but his face is very crude indeed with two large round eyes, a round nose and two large straight lips filling the whole of the space. The arms emerge from the gown to…

Flat rectangular pilgrim's badge made from lead, now bent and torn. One corner is incomplete, and the other three show slight expansion towards their missing attachment loops; otherwise the badge is complete. It is decorated with a central motif of St Paul (with a pointed beard and bald forehead) on the left, and St Peter (with a rounded beard and curly hair) on the right. Both saints are nimbed and dressed in flowing robes, and both hold their symbol obliquely in their outer hand. St Paul holds a sword (symbol of his martyrdom by beheading), and St Peter holds a large key with the el…

Gilded silver pilgrim's badge in good condition, representing St Nicholas. The figure of the saint, robed as a bishop, is in the centre; the head is missing and also his right arm which was originally raised in blessing. The bishop's vestments consist of a loose robe edged with a broad collar decorated with pellets, and with a vertical stripe down the front also decorated with pellets. In front of him and slightly to his right are three children, and his left hand is resting on the head of the child at one end. Each child has a bent-up arm. The lower half of the figures is masked…
