Small, short, and stout flat axehead, of Needham. S, (2017) class 4E or F, most of the flat rectangular butt survives, curving out very slightly to a thicker centre section which has very slight flanges to both sides on both faces. The axe then curves out sharply to a wide cutting edge, most of which is now missing due to corrosion, the smooth olive-green polished surface is what remains of the original surfaces, largely corroded and pitted, mostly to one face and the extremities of the axe. Cf. NMS-6620F2 for a similar axe. Length 76.0mm, maximum surviving width 44.7mm, max…

Very corroded flat axehead of early Bronze Age date. Apart from the corrosion and total loss of surface, it appears complete. The butt is 27.5mm wide, and the axe then flares with very gently concave edges for most of its length. Close to the other end it flares out in a more noticeable curve, to rounded corners and a gently curving cutting edge which is 53.6mm wide. The cross-section flares from 2-2.5mm thick at the butt to a maximum of 13.0mm thick in the centre. The axehead is 88.5mm long and weighs 223g. It is slightly larger than, for example, LVPL-4DA982; and compares …

Blade end from a copper or copper-alloy flat axe. The cutting edge is wide and slightly splayed, though fairly blunt. The break is almost parallel to cutting edge, and is worn and patinated. The fragment is patinated a very dark brown, with some small pockets of pale green invasive corrosion. There are a few recent 'plough' scratches. Early Bronze Age.

Small copper-alloy (or more probably copper) flat axehead, undecorated and with flat, slightly concave sides. It is quite badly corroded, with abundant small brown encrustations on a pale to medium green patina. There are three slight marks, one showing copper-coloured metal, which indicate recent damage, probably agricultural. Other damage appears more ancient, and includes a missing butt, which seems to have broken off in one large and one small chunk; small irregular chunks missing from the side; and a number of small chips from the curved blade edge. Length 63 mm, width of blad…

Copper or copper-alloy object which is probably a miniature flat axehead. Sub-triangular in form, with damaged crescentic blade edge and concave sides, it has a narrow (although incomplete) butt, and a very thin section with no trace of bevels or flanges. It has small amounts of surface corrosion, but otherwise a medium and dark green patina. The side, butt and blade are extensively chipped and damaged, largely as a result of corrosion. Scratches on the main faces may be relatively recent, although as they are still filled with soil it is hard to tell. Length 50 mm, width of blade …
