Copper-alloy tube, a complete central component of a ramrod holder that would originally have been attached to the wooden base of a gun barrel. It is 36 mm long and 10 mm in external diameter in the centre, but tapers very slightly to 9 mm just before a moulding around each end. The mouldings run round about half of the tube's circumference, but then peter out on the reverse where the tube would have been attached. In the centre of the reverse is a longitudinally set rectangular projection with a central circular hole whose inner edge is in line with the edge of the tube; this project…

Copper-alloy tubular tailpipe, part of a holder for a ramrod. At one end the object is a hollow cylindrical tube, 10 mm in diameter. The tube has a worn groove around the top and a worn moulding close to the bottom; these decorations do not appear to continue around the reverse, where there is a longitudinal rectangular projecting lug across the line of the moulding. This lug is 8 mm long and 3 mm wide, and has a central circular perforation. This lug would have served to attach the ramrod to the wooden base of the gun's barrel (the stock), which is why the decoration is confined to t…

Copper-alloy tubular tailpipe, part of a holder for a ramrod. At one end the object is a hollow, octagonally facetted tube; this end would have received the ramrod. The tube is bordered at either end with a moulding around the front five facets. The rear three facets are undecorated, but the central one has a longitudinal rectangular projecting lug, 10 mm long and 2 mm thick, which has a central circular perforation. This lug would have served to attach the ramrod to the wooden base of the gun's barrel (the stock), which is why the decoration is confined to the front and sides. Bel…
