Cast copper-alloy leg from a medieval cooking vessel. It is roughly rectangular in cross-section, 32 x 14mm at the break, with a very slight midrib down the centre. It flares smoothly to the out-turned foot, and there is no break between the two. The foot is triangular in side view, with a trapezoidal base 39mm wide at most and 22mm deep. It is 47mm long and weighs 109.5g. There is no particularly close parallel in Butler and Green 2003; it is fairly similar to one from a 14th-century context in Winchester (Biddle 1990, no. 3386).

Fragment of rim from a cast copper alloy cooking vessel. Using a rim diameter chart the overall diameter of the rim appears to be c. 25cm. In cross-section the rim is thickened to 5.6mm, and out-turned with a slightly concave exterior; it then tapers to a sharp edge. A short length of the body or side wall of the vessel survives, 4.0mm thick at the break. The interior is concave in cross-section below the thickened rim. The interior is polished smooth, with a grey patina which is worn away on the thickest part of the rim. The exterior is rougher, and sooted. Length 94mm, width of frag…

Lead pot mend, one face larger, flatter and sub-triangular, the other smaller, lumpier and D-shaped. The larger face measures 21 x 23mm and has concentric wrinkles, probably caused by shrinkage on cooling. The smaller face measures 17 x 13mm. The total thickness is 8mm and the object weighs 15.72g. Probably medieval, possibly Roman.

The space in between is narrow but may have been flattened. No obvious pottery survives. It is c. 8mm thick at most, and weighs 25.96g. Probably medieval, possibly Roman.

Complete vessel leg from a cast copper-alloy ewer or possibly a cooking vessel, either made separately from the rest of the vessel and soldered on, or a repair. The leg is a tall D shape in cross-section, flat on the reverse and curved at the front, and tapers from 17mm wide and 18mm thick at the top to 11.5mm wide and 14.5mm thick close to the bottom. Here it turns a sharp angle and continues to taper, forming a foot with a flat base and a rounded toe. The foot is 22mm long. Part of a handle lug from a medieval or post-medieval copper-alloy cooking vessel, circular in cross-section. About half survives, running from one end which is wider (a maximum of 22mm across) and whose very end retains the very smooth interior surface of the vessel; this is at right angles to the edges of the lug. It then has a faint hint of a circumferential moulding, and tapers to 17mm diameter. At the other end, it is broken across the corner, which appears to have been angled. The fragment is relatively thin at the worn break, largely rectangular in cross-section but with a slight midrib. The two halves are not oriented in the same plane, so the total length is c. 39mm and the total width c. 32mm. Cast copper-alloy leg from a vessel. A five-toed foot survives, 39 mm wide and 25 mm thick, with a groove separating this from the upper part which is D-shaped in cross-section. Only a tiny part of this exists, with an irregular U-shaped top covered in grey solder. It seems likely either that this foot broke off its vessel, and had to be replaced, or was cast as a replacement to a broken-off foot. The latter seems more likely as the edges of the top are not clearly broken. Vessels with these feet date from the mid thirteenth to the end of the sixteenth century.

Cast copper-alloy tubular spout in the form of a dog's head. It was cast separately from the rest of the vessel and soldered on via a long sloping seam. The spout quickly tapers to become tubular; the end has a pair of upright rectangular slightly fluted ears, a moulded brow and muzzle with no extra decoration in the way of eyes, and open jaws between which a short cylinder projects to finish the spout. This is a simple example of a well-known 15th century type; it would originally have been attached to a pedestal-base ewer (see Lewis 1987, fig. 8A).

The base appears to measure about 34 x 25 mm, and has relief decoration; there is a border of short radiating lines, and then some pellets around the centre as well as a visible casting seam. Many are D-shaped, with a flat back fitted with loops or holes for attachment to the bars of a bird's cage. One was found on the Thames foreshore with dice within, so it was perhaps being used as a shaking cup. They all appear to be late medieval or early…

Large cast copper-alloy leg from a cooking vessel. Basically rectangular in section, it has a midrib running down the front. It tapers from 36 mm wide at the broken top to 31 mm wide at the bottom before it turns a right-angle into a short flaring foot. The broken top is hollow, but lower down the leg is solid and there appears to be a thick layer of sooting on the top of the solid part. There is some light sooting on all other surfaces.

Curious pyramidal copper-alloy object which may be an unusual form of vessel leg. It is square in cross-section, tapering from 18 mm square at the top to 9 mm square at the base. The top has a flattened area suggesting that it may have been cast separately and soldered on to the vessel. At only 32.5 mm long, it is short for a vessel leg. As its proportions are reminiscent of a dish-support from a chafing dish, it may belong to the same date (15th to 16th century).

Rim fragment from a copper-alloy vessel. There is no thickening or tapering to distinguish the rim from the rest of the vessel; it is 1.4 mm thick at the rim, and tapers to 0.7 mm thick at the innermost break. There is very little curve to the fragment. The broken edges incorporate three incomplete circular holes, all 5 mm in diameter; these were presumably drilled as part of a repair. Both faces are worn or polished smooth. This is an unusual vessel fragment due to its thinness, flatness, lack of curve, lack of distinction between the rim and the rest of the vessel and lack of d…

Part of the rim is missing but one small pierced vertical lug handle survives. Close to the base is a repair plug of copper alloy, with a small hole close by. Tiny handle lug, perhaps from a chafing dish. It is a long thin oval, with a perforation through the centre; the lug is now either worn so that the perforation has broken through, or was always made with an incomplete perforation. On the reverse is a rivet to attach it to the wall of the vessel. This lug would have held a drop handle, useful on a chafing dish because it did not get hot.

Neat 'rivet' made from folded copper-alloy sheet, now a little bent. These were used to repair holes in copper-alloy vessels. The sheet was originally lozenge-shaped with the two less pointed corners cut off. The more pointed corners are folded back into the middle and then doubled back on themselves to secure the rivet to the vessel. The corners are trimmed off to form a rectangular shape, and then the corners of this rectangle are neatly trimmed. It measures 29 mm long and tapers from 19 mm wide at one end to 14 mm wide at the other.
