Copper alloy buckle fragment; probably half of the curved part of a D-shaped buckle, missing the pin. Lentoid in section, narrowing and thickening towards the junction with the cross bar where it is broken. Two transverse ribs probably acted as a pin rest at the widest point; the rest of the front has very worn punched ring and dot and is separated into segments by slight broad ribs flanked by lines of punched dots. The shape and decoration are similar to late Roman buckle types but no parallel has been found.

Copper alloy ?buckle frame fragment. It survives as a triangle with an extended apex and a slighter base bar, beyond which the side bars are broken. The terminal is triangular in section with a rounded end and traces of transverse grooves and moulding - possibly a stylised animal head originally? The side bars are 5x2mm and angled slightly in toards the front; the cross bar is 3x2mm and very worn in the centre - perhaps from holding a buckle tongue? The condition and style of the piece suggest a late Saxon - early Medieval date.

Copper alloy buckle fragment. The loop has opposed stylized dolphin heads with a single rib across the necks and no crests; the surface is corroded but no trace of eyes are visible. The back is flat. It is broken at the points where on a Type IA the loop would meet the straight bar - or (perhaps less likely) on a type IIA the tails would coil round with attached hinge loops below. Width 31mm, surviving length 18mm. These buckles are associated with military and official wear in the late Roman period and beyond.

Oval buckle with sheet plate. The frame, 15 by 20mm, has a narrower offset bar and broadens towards the centre of the outer edge; the pin is folded around the bar. The plate, 41 by 15mm tapers slightly from the hinged end to a rounded attachment end. Two rivets (one of which survives) join the short back plate, there is a third rivet hole towards the attachment end. The plate has an incisedmarginal line and the letters PRV (now rather indistinct) filling the gap between the rivets, and a line outlining the single rivet hole overlapping with the V. Buckle shape as Dress Accessories no.271.

Copper alloy buckle part or pendant. Slightly bent lower part and much of the front obscured by corrosion. A pierced lug for suspension/attachment is set at 90 degrees to the main part. The main plate is slightly concave at the back which is undecorated. It is based on a rounded triangular shape, with the centre cut out but leaving two prongs pointing inwards from the end bar - which resembles the fittings for attaching straps to double loop shoe buckles in the post-medieval period (but these have broader paired loops at the buckle attachment end). Broader areas to the sides with curve…

Copper alloy fragment from a cast partly openwork object. Although now concave in one direction at the back it has clearly been bent and would have originally been flat or nearly so. Two side bars, 5mm wide and D-section, are both broken at one end. The linking part expoands in the centre to encompass an open 4-lobed motif with a shell-shape above; incised lines on the shell shape are now very worn. The side bars end with a broad 2-lobed and facetted terminal; the two sides are slightly asymetric. The most likely function for this object is the outer half of a large trapezoidal buckle…
