Anglo-Saxon coin-brooch. The object is a silver penny of Edward the Confessor (1042-66), of the Hammer Cross type, c. AD 1060, which has been mounted as a brooch or badge. The original coin was minted in Thetford, probably by the moneyer Godlef, although the secondary treatment of the coin means that most of the inscription is no longer legible, with only __FONÐET__, from the middle of the reverse inscription clearly legible. Silver coin, an Icenian early Face horse type (Gregory EFH A, Talbot Large flan A). Some wear, irregular outline. The findspot conforms to a general Waveney Valley distribution bias for the non-hoard finds (John Talbot 2006, BARInt 1532). Dies are as Talbot D and 8 (Talbot 2006 Fig 20)and he notes the reverse die 8 is only the second example recorded.

Copper alloy brooch fragment, Colchester derivative type with double pierced lug spring attachment. Upper half only, with incomplete spring, damage to one wing and worn and corroded surfaces. The surviving half of the spring has four turns. No decoration survives on the wings. The bow is flat backed with convex sides and no surviving decoration on the central rib. Width 21mm, surviving length 21mm
