Copper alloy brooch, Colchester derivative type with hinged pin. Missing part of one wing and most of pin. The surviving wire wound around the centre of the hinge bar is probably a replacement pin stub. The hinge bar is iron. There are traces of single grooves on the wing terminals. The bow is flat backed, Unusually for this type the front is divided into an upper and lower half. On the upper half a raised triangle in a grooved outline has the point down at the mid bow, against a transverse groove. Copper alloy brooch, "Wing and fanbow" type. Missing spring, pin, rear hook and damaged catchplate and margins; very bent upper bow; extensive areas of corrosion. The spring would have been held by a rearward facing hook, but there is also corrosion with spring impressions in it at both ends of the back of the wings which might be traces of solder. The front of the wings was moulded. The bow is flat backed and 2 to 2.5mmm thick, with the outline expanding to a broad base, which was probably originally straight. A central decorative band has a concave centre flanked by two narrow ribs a…
