Description: A base silver copy of an early-medieval Islamic dirham, modified into a brooch with the addition of silver-washing and lug attachments for a (now missing) pin; only a trace of the attachments can now be seen. Oriented as a coin, it has a die axis of 9 o'clock; the remains of the two lugs for the pin are situated at 6 o'clock. The area around the pin lugs has a pale yellow-brown substance, presumably adhesive, with traces of an orangey brown, presumably iron corrosion. A copper-alloy possible thumb rest from a tankard lid (or similar) of post-medieval date. The piece consists of a semi-cicular plate, pierced at the centre (3.0mm diameter), extending into a short rectangular area, convex to the front and concave to the reverse. From this extends a bifurcated terminal with moulded and grooved decoration to the front only, giving the appearance of each prong twisting towards it tip perhaps in imitation of rams' horns. An incompleteMedieval (1200-1400) gilded copper alloy buckle plate, with much damage to the outside edge of both upper and lower plates, and missing the folded section connecting the two. It measures 19.29mm in length, 9.62mm in max.width, 3.59mm in max.thickness and weighs 1.01g. The buckle plate is formed of a sheet of copper alloy 0.59mm thick which was originallyfolded roughly at the centre to create a back plate and the fold itself cut to form two arms with the notch for the pin to swing around the bar of the missing frame. A gilded copper alloy medieval (1250-1350) single-loop (or 'D' shaped) buckle frame, incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. The buckle has an expanded and thickened outside edge with a triangular notch at the centre for the pin. To either side of the notch is very worn (perhaps moulded or grooved) decoration in the form of short wavy lines. The bar is offset and narrowed with a D-shaped moulding at either end. A copper alloy medieval (1250-1350) single-loop buckle frame, incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin.The buckle has an expanded and angled outside edge, decorated with an engraved curlicue extending from one side to the centre, with additional lines curving above and beyond the curclicue.
